Rear rotor won't budge

I have replaced the front rotors with the drilled and slotted race concept rotors and cannot break loose the rear rotors. Well I just tried the left rear so far. I pulled the caliper free of the rotor and tapped the rotor with a hammer in the rear and also in the front between the studs. Its solid as a rock. This isn't the original. I had new rotors put on around three months ago. The kind that rust right away. Has anyone experienced this and do I just need a bigger mallet or what. Parking brake was not on. Any suggestions appreciated.

Mike:)

There is actually a threaded hole in each rotor that you can screw a bolt into and push the rotor off. Sorry, but I can't remember exactly what metric size the bolt is:confused:

Pretty sure it's the same size bolt that holds the under-engine plastic guard in place. Unfortunately, some aftermarket rears don't have this hole. In that case...soak with PB blaster and pound away.

8mm bolt, 12 mm head, as I remember.

I remember now that Trevor reminded me.;)

Isn't there a rubber grommet or hole where you access the star wheel adjuster so that using a flat blade screwdriver you can back off the starwheel adjuster which loosens the handbrake shoes that are holding the disk on. Or maybe i'm thinking of another car! Anyway I'm pretty sure it's the handbrake shoes that are holding the rotor on.

Yep, in the back of the rear rotor assembly, just above the driveshaft level

Use one bolt from each of your radiator brackets to put in the two threaded holes on your rotor (if it has them) and just tighen them a little at a time alternating between the two! :)

if that doesn't work you'll just have to tap the back of the rotor with a hammer a bit in that rear location where the caliper was. Just rotate the hub a bit every few strikes and it should work free. I only recomend this because I assume you dont care about your old rotors.

By way of further assistance ----- the bolts to use are 8 m.m. (In case you do not wish to remove the radiator bracket bolts.)

Hey, that's really cool of Subaru to include rear rotor removal tools on the car and to have such a handy place to store them! ;) :D
