Re: Possibly worst shape SVX ever???

If I had the means and the money I would at least try to fix it up and take great pride in bringing an SVX back to life but i have no money whatsoever.

These are the problems:

The driver door is rusted through, normal rust starting behind the right rear fender, inside of left rear fender is starting to rust, cracked windshield, I don't believe the back seat is salvageable as a rusted CD player was stuck to it, door panels and leather seats(no rips or tears) are filthy but is possible they could come clean, the wiring is all messed up-hence it being used as a parts car by previous owner, engine and transmission are in unknown condition.

The decent:

It does have an almost perfect condition headliner, carpet will probably come clean with a thorough cleaning(or 5:lol:), All metal is straight, both bumpers and all but one plastic molding piece is useable, all other glass appears to be in good condition(just normal streaks on moving windows) and I have just about every part just everything is almost completely disassembled.

I am still thinking I might like to hold on to it for awhile in case I ever do get the money to fix it up since it does have a clean title and is fairly low mileage (101k). The biggest problem besides money is a place to store it until that time and keeping it from rusting anymore(especially the inside of the trunk)

Maybe you could turn it into a track car or etc

If only I went to the tracks anywhere:rolleyes:

Maybe I could start a pole on what people think I should do with this car-If I had someone who could readily help with the wiring it would make it a much easier decision...

I must add that it is surprising that this car has good hood struts and perfect visors

Looks a bit rough. At least it doesnt appear to have ever been wrecked heavily.

I don't think it ever was. The PO's had taken quite a bit of it apart and thats why the fenders/lights/etc are off. It is covered in bird doodoo and 2 1/2 years worth of dirt from sitting in a barn. This is a pic of when they first got it.

BTW, how is your project shaping up?

Hey Nate,
Being as you need a tranny for your other one, I voted for you to use the parts. It looks like the best example of a parts car there could be. A good opportunity for you to learn how to R&R a tranny and other such things. Good luck working out the storage for it.

Yeah, I was planning on swapping transmissions for now to check if this one is good. As far as R&R, already did that when I thought my flexplate was bad.:o Also I plan on pulling the motor and checking the internals to determine if it can be used as is.
I do have storage at my friends dad's who is also my mechanic for stuff I can't do-but only for maybe a month or 2 since the car does not have registration.

If it was cleaned, it wouldn't look nearly as bad. Still it's a very, very long way from road worthy. I say use the parts for now.

Which one?

The Claret is getting a heart transplant (hopefully) before Reading.

The '93 is slowly shaping up. I pushed out a few dents, replaced the LF fender and both bumpers with used, put on some wipers, replaced a bent rim, installed poly sway bar bushings, and replaced the cat. It actually passed state inspection. :) It still has typical oil leaks, and the interior is still pretty ratty. (Door panels and rear seat ruined, carpet now gone) :o

Our cars are getting so rare I feel any that can be restored should be. Perhaps a couple hundred bucks on a tempo storage shelter would keep the weather off.

That's how my feeling has been as well, I cringe when i see people parting one out due to a transmission failure or from purely cosmetic damage.

Mike, I was talking about the 93 lol. Good to hear it passed inspection. Its gotta be a pain to have to worry about inspections. We don't have any here although I have seen many cars around that definitely should not be on the road.

Theres already a couple people parting out their SVXi, we don't need another. If it were me, I'd put it back together and track it like no tomorrow.

But then again I have a bad habit of dumping money into broken cars.

As it sits now: (only difference is now with a new sticker :) )

If you have the time and motivation, the personal satisfaction is worth it. :) Test the drivetrain before you invest in the body parts to fix it. You may want to use the stock trans in your silver, then you can make this one a 5 speed with a rebuilt motor. ;)
