how to deal with clear coat issues??

Hi,
Is there any way to get around with the oxidation issues of the paint due to clear coat issues?? Can we actually remove or scrub off the oxidation region and get back the original paint?
thanks,
-Pavan.

Ahaaa.. its exactly what paul[92svx95] told me, but just want to make sure with you. So, can you tell me how to perform this job?? I dont mind working on it rather spending $2k-$3k for a paint job [BTW] this is not an issue with my svx, but with my new car 93 Alfa Romeo :)].

You're only supposed to sand it down down a little bit right? So there's still some clearcoat left..? I mean wouldn't it rust if you scrub down to the paint?

SVXRide 04-01-2006 03:31 PM

Danny is right, adding a little dish soap to your water will help the sanded off material float away easier. Use a good sanding block and take your time. You only want to sand off the clearcoat and not sand down into the base color coat (you'll only get rust if you sand down to bare metal).

But if the rust is deep, you should go all the way Pav, till you reach the bare metal... or else it won't be any good.

How come the rust is coming in the way? I am supposed to sand off only the oxidation coat right? untill i see the oxidised layer going off from the paint. Right?? i will keep on sanding slowly and smoothly over that region with soap water on it constantly untill I see the clear paint. first with 1000 and then 2000. Correct me if I am wrong.

The rusting is generated from the metal below the Bondo/Paint/Lacquer. You must go all the way
