My break-up with Subaru
Well, been buying, driving, modifying, fixing, and racing SVXi for about 6 years now. I have owned one leggo wagon, one EG33 SUS, one forester, and 8 SVXi. As I get slightly older, closed AWD, and reserved most of my wrenching for my day job as a heavy duty diesel tech, I ultimately decided it was time I took a different approach to my vehicles. I have less time to tinker and repair my early 90's subies with a little more $ in my pocket than I used to have, so I decided to buy a car outside of a Subaru...
I am still selling the ShadowMachine to make way for another beast, but still keeping my Pearly as my DD and winter car. Emily is an 03 BMW M5... And she is absolutely hands down, fantastic. Some of you may know I was looking for a 540i6mt for some time now at the right price, but I was able to snag this up from the dealer I work at as it was a trade-in and the price was right. For those of you not familiar, the M5 is similar to the SVX in regardles to options, Full leather interior, heated seats, Escaine headliner and pillars, Sat Nav, oh and I almost forgot a 400HP ITB 4.9l V8 strapped to a 6mt!!! The suspension is rock solid but also offering a ride that NO SVX has ever come close to. Emily continues to blow my mind with how much technology is packed into her. The traction control and economy mode are fantastic, I am averaging 22mpg mixed... The best part is yet to come, you can turn off the traction control, put her in "sport mode" and the absolute savagery of this engine is unreal. The powerband is so wide with the dual vanos variable lifters and it will keep you pressed to your seat well over 135mph (haven't wandered above that yet). She will also get her 4klb fat ass stopped on a dime and leave some change! I always giggled when BMW claimed the ultimate driving machine, saying to myself, "Ha, I have that sitting in my garage right now"(thinking of my silver) but good god their claims are spot on. This car has set the bench mark for sport and luxury in one package... I love every minute I am driving it... Oh, and a couple pics for your weary eyes after my long winded, easily excitable post:D http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...X/DSCN0170.jpg http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...X/DSCN0174.jpg http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...X/DSCN0182.jpg http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...X/DSCN0168.jpg http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...X/DSCN0161.jpg http://i65.photobucket.com/albums/h2...X/DSCN0164.jpg Tom |

Re: My break-up with Subaru
After looking at the pictures, I see the main reason you fell for that one. Yep, the fake wood just like on the SVX.   Congratulations Tom. :)

Very nice Tom.:drool: How many miles on it? I am a bit surprised that you got a sedan.

Re: My break-up with Subaru
Very nice. I was into BMWs before Subaru. Was in way deep ... but eventually got tired of the high prices for any part with a BMW name on it. They really are ultimate driving machines though - especially those wearing the "M". Congrats and good luck on your new automotive path.

Re: My break-up with Subaru
Nice choice man! Those "M" class Beamers really perform well. It is the kind of car you can take to the strip or to the track clean her up and take the woman out to a fancy, high class party. I would ride that all day long. I am a Trans Am man and having 400+ horses is no joke!

Re: My break-up with Subaru
I Can respect your choice, no joke about the ultimate driving machine. I myself would have gone for an M1, M Coupe or 850CSI. Given my budget an M3 would be all I could afford 80's. Ha!
