Do you know anything about these people, or are there any first hand reviews anywhere about the product?

Re: SVX headers

all they are doing in porting out a stock manifold.

with a die grinder/dremel, iPod and time you can do the same.

Re: SVX headers

I just want 'em for the "quicker spool". ;)

Re: SVX headers

I've ordered a few things from grimspeed when I had my GC. They're big on rs25.com. I know we can port them ourselves, but evenly? Btw, the spool thing is because a lot of impreza guys are now swapping and boosting eg33s.

Re: SVX headers

So is this for SVX headers, or for the 3.0 headers? Are the two similar at all? At the top of the page is says PnP Exhaust Manifold 3.0L Engines but then down further they say 3rd party Subaru SVX owners have seen ~15 whp/wtq gains.

Maybe it's just a simple typo on the displacement at the top of the page?

On a sidenote, it would be nice to see a set of tubular, equal-length, headers that aren't a one-off piece though! Perhaps I'll be forced to make my own? lol

*edit* I finally read the bottom (duhr) and it looks like it's just for any 6-cylinder engine, as they have no core, you just send them yours.

Re: SVX headers

That's a good question. Could be for that hzr motor, butbpics look like the one off a svx.

Naturally, we have to ask whether this is dyno'd, and whether there are other mods to the engine.

I am porting mine right now for my pearlie... I will post up the dyno numbers if I ever decide to get it dyno'd....:p

There's a reason that butts can't type. :p

I don't know a thing about svx headers but it be amazing if there where a set we can buy aftermarket uneven for the boxer rumble. Like the imprezas.

That wouldn't really be that hard to do....

Of course, it still wouldn't sound the same because part of that Boxer rumble is the 4-cylinders exhaust strokes being 180* apart (plus its got a turbo).

Flat 6's are generally alot smoother than most other engines because they balance themselves VERY well. That third row of pistons really makes a difference.

The three cylinders on each side of the crankcase tend to have an end-to-end rocking motion, like a pair of straight-3 engines, but in the usual boxer engine configuration, the imbalances on each side cancel each other, resulting in a perfectly smooth engine.

The flat-6 is also smoother than the flat-4 or inline-4 because the power strokes of the cylinders overlap in a four-stroke cycle engine. In these four-cylinder configurations, pistons are 180 degrees apart in crankshaft rotation and start their power strokes every 180 degrees, so each piston must come to a complete stop before the next one commences its power stroke. In the flat-6, each power stroke begins 120 degrees after the previous one starts, resulting in 60 degrees of overlap between power strokes and a much smoother delivery of power to the flywheel. This intrinsic smoothness is desirable in cars, motorcycles, and light aircraft which are more powerful and expensive than more common designs.

Not quite as easy as you may think Dustin.:)

The reason that the flat four cylinder engines sound so different to the flat six's is because the fours fire the cylinders left, left, right, right.
With the two 4cyl. pulses contained in the same side header pipe, the sounds combine to produce a longer single sound. The flat 4 VW engine sounds the same as the flat 4 Subaru engines for the same reason.

The six fires left, right, left, right, left, right, each side alternatively. So it will never produce the same type of sound.

Harvey.
