CNC cut SVX Battery hold-downs
I've started production of these!
They are CNC cut aluminum. I will drill the holes for the hold down rods to match the stock distance. These have not been cleaned up either...just wanted to get them out here for you to see. The bottom one is same as the others, I just painted in the letters. Any takers at $20 shipped to you (USA shipping)? http://x35performance.com/svx/batbar1.jpg http://x35performance.com/svx/batbar2.jpg |
Re: CNC cut SVX Battery hold-downs
How about thicker Al stock?

1/4" thickness at that length looks like it bows somewhat under tension. ..I would think 3/8" would work well. And please round those edges... . |
Re: CNC cut SVX Battery hold-downs
For the material thickness - I have a Honda CRV sized battery in my SVX, much smaller than the normal SVX one, that's why it looks to be bending. I will order some 3/8 thick for testing, but I don't think it's necessary
Hope to have a fully finished one to show tomorrow. |
Interested. Any way you can jazz them up a bit so it's not just a metal rectangle?

Re: CNC cut SVX Battery hold-downs
I'd be down for a cute battery tie down. :)
I love the look of the Prodrive and the COBB battery hold downs but I don't want the "COBB" logo since they make nothing for the SVX. Prodrive: http://www.oakos.com/Merchant2/graph...001/PRDBTD.jpg COBB: http://www.oakos.com/Merchant2/graph.../COB800100.jpg |
Re: CNC cut SVX Battery hold-downs
Ooh those are nice...let me get to work...

I dunno about "cute" :p but I've come up with a couple ideas (expanded from the original concept) that could pretty-up the tie without adding much too complexity.
If you can pull off something like the Cobb or Prodrive without it being too difficult that's fine, too. |
Re: CNC cut SVX Battery hold-downs
Interested.....

Re: CNC cut SVX Battery hold-downs
Ok finally got around to these again...
Check out this revision. I would cut the SVX logo through the large flat area. Or I could also cut 'ALCYONE' in the cool font and add the little horns This is about the same size as the factory tiedown so I think it would not cause any fit issues. http://x35performance.com/svx/batbar-v2.JPG |
Re: CNC cut SVX Battery hold-downs
I would happily guinea pig one for you. :) how much? With the alcyone and horns, preferably. Any chance of it being anodized blue?
|
Re: CNC cut SVX Battery hold-downs
Those are pretty cool. I'd be in for one.
|
Re: CNC cut SVX Battery hold-downs
Lookin good
|
Re: CNC cut SVX Battery hold-downs
I'm going to order some aluminum stock to make a pilot run.....stay tuned...
|
Re: CNC cut SVX Battery hold-downs
Looking pretty good! Any ideas on price? The ProDrive runs about $40-45 IIRC and the Cobb holds no attraction for reasons previously stated. At least ProDrive sells wheels that fit our cars! And oil-caps too!! Good work keeping after developing something worthwhile. Bravo!
Glenn  |
Re: CNC cut SVX Battery hold-downs
Would definitely be interested in a set or two of the Alcyone with horns.

Re: CNC cut SVX Battery hold-downs
I would be interested...
|
Re: CNC cut SVX Battery hold-downs
I will buy one when they are ready.
Keep us posted... Good work so far. |
Re: CNC cut SVX Battery hold-downs
.
What's the latest on the battery hold downs? Reading's coming and I am in the throes of a full-blown Dremel Depression... . |
Re: CNC cut SVX Battery hold-downs
Hi Everyone-
I am currently in the middle of moving, so things are a little behind now... |
Progress? My battery tie is getting reaallly corroded. :o

Re: CNC cut SVX Battery hold-downs
Nothing new on this? I would love to have one... need one actually. I spose the $1 ties hold it down alright but...
|
Re: CNC cut SVX Battery hold-downs
Ok finally have things set up in the new house.
I will be getting to work on these again shortly..:) I should have an oil cap figured out pretty soon too. |
Re: CNC cut SVX Battery hold-downs
:) :) :)

Re: CNC cut SVX Battery hold-downs
Just about ready...made a test cut in wood tonite.
The smaller one is what will fit on the oil cap. As you can see if you look close, I need a smaller cutter to make the path where X is. The larger one should be about right for the battery bars. https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-n...2021.02.07.jpg |
Re: CNC cut SVX Battery hold-downs
What's a XAS?? :D:lol:

Re: CNC cut SVX Battery hold-downs
Avast did not like that link either. Weird. I have an oil cap like that that says STi on it. No idea where it came from, it came with my white car.
|
Re: CNC cut SVX Battery hold-downs
Yep that's the one I will be milling the XAS into

Re: CNC cut SVX Battery hold-downs
So.. I'll be getting one of these combos when you send me my alternator, right??? ;)
Neat work. Can't wait for the finished results. :) |

My factory tie was seriously corroded, I had to throw it out and buy a new fancy Honda one off Ebay, but I'm still in.
Also that link didn't work for me and I don't use virus protection (keep that between us, don't want to get h4x0r3d.) |

also interested Steve, keep me posted.

Re: CNC cut SVX Battery hold-downs
I ordered materials over the weekend, so I should be able to start making chips in a week or so..
