Extended Warranty
 

Any one ever looked at buying an extended warranty? I found a local company that has been around for 30 years who is offering engine, transmission and water pump. (http://www.5yrwarranty.com/). I will be purchasing an SVX and was worried about the transmission problems. Thoughts? Thanks.

You can self insure by adding a transmission filter (if one is not installed already) and a transmission cooler. There two things will help the transmission last those additional miles. Usually the insurance policies are quite expensive. If you find a good one for a reasonable price, it may be worth it. I would still go the additonal things mentioned above. :)

Thanks. $900.00. Have to have my local mechanic change oil for paper trail. I was planning on the cooler after reading up some on the site (this site has been invaluable...plan on picking up my first SVX tomorrow morning....1992 121k two owner well taken care of). Still finding out what it will set me back and how long to install. Any suggestions? Everybody has been a great help.

Cooler will be less than $100 depending on which one you get installed. Filter can be the cheap one (Subaru) or a PermaCool spin on with a place for a temp sensor for a temp indicator. The PermaCool is around $50. and easy to install. :)
