Cam Shasft Sproket Keyway??

Ok, I replaced my Cam seals, Crank Seal, O-ring and water pump, but now in reassembling I have stumbled on the Cam Shaft Sprocket going back on.

Do the Cam shaft sprockets have keyways. Niether one had them when I took them off. The Cank Sprocket did of course, but what the hell did I miss on the cam's.

They have a weight in them but surely that does not go in the groove?

I looked on Subaruparts.com and they do not show a keyway either.

Please someone help!!!

There is a pin in the bore of the sprocket that goes into the notch of the cam shaft. There is not much angular movement in the set up so timing is precise. The pin is firmly attached to the sprocket and it can't fall out. Would you rather have a key that could get lost? Make sure you torque the sprocket bolt.

Thank you

Ok I thought that pin was a weight.

That solves it then, but why is there a notch in the Sproket that look like a keyway should go in?

The metal was removed for balance is my best estimate.
