Quick A/C question - how much oil?

Hi guys,
I'm finally getting my A/C charged after flushing the flushable parts and evacuating the whole thing. My question is how much oil we should use with a completely empty system?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Re: Quick A/C question - how much oil?

I have the Zexel service manual for the A/C system. It doesn't say specifically what the total system oil spec is. It does say when installing a new compressor it should contain 5oz. of oil and then drain 2.6oz or leave in what was in the old compressor to compensate for what is in the rest of the system.
If the system is empty then it seems logical that 5oz. is what you want. Also 21-25oz. of refrigerant.

Re: Quick A/C question - how much oil?

Thanks for the response. I found a spec on the compressor itself that said 150 cc of oil. However, AllData said to use 70 mL of oil when replacing the compressor. I figured that they assumed there was some oil left in the rest of the system, so the 150 must be for the entire system. So that's what we used. (150 mL is just a tad more than 5 oz)

It seems to be working pretty well, so I'm happy! It's been in the upper 80's and 90's the past few weeks and I've been miserable all summer, so I'm glad to have it working!

Now I just have to find a quiet bearing for the tensioner pulley... :WTF:
