Torque converter attached to a Sleeve with a C clip?
 

I now have Elninoalex's Ex trany, but the Torque converter was removed, and inside the linkage is a 1.5-2 inch expanding C clip that is attached to a shaft in the trany.
The C clip fits in a groove in the shaft inserted into the trany(diff case) and the Torque converter has 2 notches in its protruding part, which need to slid over the C clip when engaged.

My question:
How does the Torque converter get installed while attaching this C clip?

I think I need a manual.
Keep in mind I will be gioving this all to a mechanic to install for me, but I'm concerned.

If you examome the torque convertor it becomes a lot easier to see. It slips onto the output part of the TC and clicks into place when inserted to mate with the transmission.

Caution, make sure the TC is fullt seated before installing the unit back in the car - DAMHIKIJK

So are you saying that the shaft that holds the C clip comes out of the trany? so I remove the shaft from the trany, then assemble the shaft into the TC and then slide the rany onto the TC/Shaft after its attached to the flywheel?

I was not aware that the shaft came out of the trany that easily.

The sleeve comes out of the tranny, then install it onto the torque converter, then slide it back into the tranny, turn it and push it till it wont seat any farther, should be about a 1/4" inside the leading edge of the bell housing, then tie it in place so it won't slide forward while reinstalling the tranny, or you'll be removing it all again to get it to seat back.

what Huck said is correct and much better said than I managed.

Couple other things I forgot (just in case). Make sure you fill the TC with ATF before putting it back. And when you insert the TC back into the tranny, rotate it a time or two while pressing in a bit. It's like there's a double detent and you have to get this second position right or the TC sleeve will push against the pump and ruin it when it's all bolted up. Final test to make sure the TC is fully seated is when the tranny mates with the engine. The TC should spin with no more than finger pressure at the opening that's used to remove the 4 bolts. That makes it handy since you don't have to worry about matching the TC to flexplate holes as you insert.

Al I have to do is get the sleve out of the trany.
Should it just Slide out?

It takes a little effort, but yes, it will slide right out.
