Question on Engine for sale.
 

I have a spare engine lying around, has about 140k miles, wanna sell it for 400$. The problem is I pulled it out from a car and never actually started the engine before pulling it out, because the car had no transmission or battery.. The guy I bought it for told me the engine ran fine. Is there and way of knowing if the engine works properly or not or not without having it installed? I don't want rip anyone off if I sell it.

compression and leak down tests. check oil for gas/water. check spark plugs for obvious signs of detonation. does the engine turn over easily without the spark plugs in it?

I didn't take out the spark plugs yet

You shouldn't be able to easily turn the engine over (rotate the crank) if the spark plugs are still in the engine. If you could, it would indicate that your piston rings were shot or you had a hole in the top of several pistons :eek:
