Greetings from Paul's son-in-law

Hello all
My name is Ross. Paul is my father-in-law. Recently I signed on with this forum as DadsSVX. I haven't been able to post or reply since I signed up almost a week ago. I emailed Admin but I've had no luck. Paul signed on with his own account so I could post. Paul is okay, but he's still in a nursing home. He's been on a bit of a rough road the last 18 months or so. He's hoping to come home but that will depend on his recovery of course.
In any case, Paul won't be able to drive again, and he's got his SVX in storage. I'm considering taking it on since I too love the design. In fact we both became very fond of the SVX at the same time, when he took one on for a magazine article. I found it to be an amazing car to drive at the time. But back to the present: Paul's car has two very badly blown head gaskets, a noisy front diff, bad center bearing, and the brakes are shot. I found all this out the hard way shortly before we got it stored! The options are to get rid of it, or go to the trouble of getting it running. With all I've read on this forum, with all the creative talent that I've seen in the forum members, I'm seriously tempted to get it going, but I need to source a good running engine, and along the way, a possible 6MT conversion and also get all the other ills fixed of course. I'm in the auto industry myself, so that will help with expenses.
And could Admin please fix whatever's wrong with my own account? I'm not sure if I did something wrong or if there's a lengthy wait time to allow posts & replies or what have you. Much appreciated!

An early welcome to you. Here we only add new spam bot members, not real people!! Well it seems like that sometimes anyhow. I hope you take on the project and get it running and moving through the gears.

It saddens me to hear that your father-in-law is in poor health. Paul is one of the truly good guys here. My prayers go out to him for a full, speedy recovery, and to you for staying at his side.
As for his SVX, and his whole fleet of interesting cars, i wish you the best getting, and keeping them on the road. I think you may be best to go the same route im going with mine. Find a complete wrecked parts car. If you can find one with an mt swap, so much the better for your plans.
Best wishes to your entire family.

Re: Greetings from Paul's son-in-law

Thanks Admin! :D
It's looking more and more likely I'll get the car running. It's nice enough to save, except for the obvious of course, but enough of a hard-luck case to have some fun with.
Unfortunately Paul has no memory of this car. He had septicaemia last year, and along with the resultant high fever, he had a mild stroke so far as the doctors can tell. Right now he has about a 30 year gap in his memory, but he does seem to be getting some of it back. His Capri and the Alfa have been sold.
Anyway! I'm looking for a good used long block, and the aforementioned 6MT trans & all the needed ancillaries to go with it. And a trans crossmember! Is it easy to fab one up, or is there an aftermarket one available?
Thanks and regards,
Ross

Ross,
Please give my regards to Paul, once a guest in my home, and a dear fellow. Gentlemen like Paul only come around rarely, and I regretted losing touch with him last year or so. It's heartwarming to hear Paul's once beloved steed will ride again. I know and remember he had a rare passion for the SVX, and felt the Italian racer inside him emerge while driving it. Best wishes from Roseville to you too!

Glenn
