Amazing Day at TomsSVX PA Garage

When Tom is working on an SVX he's like that comic book hero The Flash -- seriously, he gets so much done, so well, and so fast -- amazing. Tom's combination of skill, knowledge, talent, and work ethic are beyond my abilities to compliment. And on top of this he's a great guy. I also met Tom's girlfriend Janelle and she's fantastic too -- absolute sweetheart.

Everything was perfect except for one minor item, I'll mention at the end :(

Here's what Tom accomplished (I hope I don't forget anything).

Timing Belt
Water Pump
Thermostat
Aluminum Crank Pulley
New belts
O-ring for minor steering fluid leak
Cams seals
Front crank seal
Install PWR radiator & New Anti freeze
Spark plugs
Tranny pan gasket
Tranny strainer filter
Transmission fluid
Diff fluids (Royal Purple)
New Mobil 1 oil
Install stainless brake lines
Install slotted/dimpled brake rotors
Racing Blue brake fluid

The 140 mile drive home was great -- even with a hard rain. The difference in the braking is fantastic. Having all this stuff done gives me much more confidence with regards to taking the SVX on long trips. I feel the PWR radiator and tranny service will greatly reduce transmission concerns.

The only minor item, was that I had forgotten my E-Z Pass for the tolls. And on the return trip when I got to the Ben Franklin bridge toll booth and reached into my stock SVX coin holder all the quarters were gone! I know it was full to the max -- I even had all the quarters with tails facing the passenger side -- doesn't everyone? I don't think my coin holder is defective and it is OEM. Now, I don't want to create any ill feelings or stir up any controversy, but like I said, Tom is like the The Flash, and well quarters just don't disappear by themselves, Tom gave me a great deal on the servicing, so I guess it's not a big deal or anything -- okay, if you've read this far, I'll come clean -- this is just a joke -- at Tom's suggestion based on one of my more ridiculous posts in the past -- I just can't say anything negative about Tom, even in jest :) Plus I don't want to put my life in jeopardy.

To all fellow members on this web site, if you ever need anything done on your car, in my humble opinion, Tom's the man to call.

Good to hear things went well and also good to know there are cool dudes out there with a talent like Tom.
So Dan did you supply the parts or did Tom provide parts + labor?

[QUOTE=DanSVX94].......... I even had all the quarters with tails facing the passenger side -- doesn't everyone?

Absolutely, and I like to line mine up by date and state, east coast to west, although I could make a case for other direction combinations if that seems important to you. And speaking of important.........
Hey, I'm glad Tom put your car in great working order. It is amazing how much better you feel when you drive out of a shop knowing things were done right. Best wishes.

At one time, I also used the coin holder for quarters, but everytime I jumped the pedal, the quarters ended up all over the mat. Gave up, realizing the coin holder did not fit my driving style. Sorry to get off topic. NICE WORK TOM, WISH YOU HAD CLONES!

Good to hear Dan! If I need anything I think i'll be going to Tom!

Tom told me what parts to get and I ordered them from Trish and George at subaruparts.com (great people). Lucky for me, they were having an employee discount promotion. Tom picked up the fluids at his local Pep Boys. I got the aluminum crank pulley from Dayle at Motorsports, and the radiator from PWR. I was very happy with Tom's labor charge. But I was even happier with how easy it was working with Tom -- no stress. My local service garage and Subaru dealers can be a big pain and they don't care about SVX cars. If I told you all the hoops my service station put me through with regards to putting a new set of Toyo Proxie 4 on my used BBS rims, you would think I was making stuff up.

Hi Jen -- I have to take a new icon photo of my Pearlie :) I'm sure you won't need anything done for a long time on your car -- I heard the previous owner was a mental patient ; )

Second time in all of two days someone has complained about missing quarters from the coin holder after repair work...

You didn't happen to see my torn up silver there did you?

DanSVX94 01-08-2007 10:58 AM

Hi Brian -- yes I saw your beautiful silver SVX. I wish I lived closer so I could see it when Tom's finished working on it.

Ricochet 01-08-2007 11:26 AM

She's not quite "beautiful" yet.. needs a few exterior touchups like paint spots and wheels, but thanks :)

RSVX 01-08-2007 11:28 AM

Yet another satisfied Tom customer! Glad to hear you enjoyed watching Tom tirelessly work.

Hell, when he came out here to work on my car we weren't back from the airport no 20 min and he was ready to dig into it.
