Totaled!!!!!

Got the call this afternoon.

Another SVX bites the dust. Immaculate leather interior, perfect paint and a hell of a strong runner.

Funny thing about this........I don't even have the title back from the dept. of transportation.

We settled for a decent (not great) cash amount and I get the car back.

SOOOOO.....Parts anyone? Red '94 with tan leather interior.

Entire front passenger panel, hood and bumper are "crunched", radiator mount is broken and headlight assembly is gone. CD does not work, I guess it got jarred too much.

Leather seats are perfect. Trans and motor strong.

Excuse me.....I'm gonna go cry!

Hmm... looks fixable to me.

sfsvx 11-01-2002 03:22 PM

I'm so sorry to hear about this. That's gotta hurt. :(

That just doesn't look like enough damage to total a car. That's my nightmare - someone runs into me and the insurance company writes it off.

Good luck with the parting out.

I think factoring the cost of repairing the car and the resale value, we're going to see more and more minor accidents totalling an SVX.

Not to say 'you shoulda done this,' but if I had damage like that, I wouldn't even tell my insurance company if I could avoid it. I'd tell 'em it was in storage and fix it myself.

I'm really sorry about your car...it's a cryin' shame...

svx6595 11-01-2002 03:28 PM

They totaled that....

I know they are expensive to fix but that doesn't look too bad. I sympathize with your loss as I have also wrecked an SVX. Same spot but worse. They told me 20 grand to fix it. The autobody shop offered me $200 for the car as is. I was insulted by that offer and had it flatbedded to my house. Later that week in front of their shop was a Claret that they had repaired. They just wanted my parts for cheap. You should have no problem getting rid of the parts though. Good Luck

Larry:)

If I had more money than I had sense . . . well, more money anyway . . . I think it'd be neat to completely replace my charcoal interior with Tan. :D

Im intersted in all the wood trim personally. :)

I could use the rear ashtray and the threshold in the trunk.

One of these days, when someone comes up with four knuckle/hub assemblies I could replace the bearings and have them ready to go as needed. Other items could be done similarly - any ideas?

Gee, if that were the case, I might still be able to make it to the Winchester meet. ;) Oh well. :D See ya in the mornin', Beav.

Oh my, That little damage is comparable to mine, I hope that mine is not totaled. The only difference I see is my hood is repairable and your headlight is smashed other than that mine is similar. PLease do not let them total mine. Sorry about your loss!!!!

Beav,
I've got my old knuckle(Right Rear) that I replaced as I had replaced the bearing in it twice(2nd one lasted about 1.000 miles), so I replaced the knuckle and the bearing this last time, If you think the knuckle would not have caused the bearing failure, and want it for a spare, you're welcome to it.

I still think that's crazy that they wrote it off. I'm sure my car had more damage than that (including a bent frame) and they still fixed it.

I feel your pain though.

If you're curious...I have pics too (Dec 2001) here

YellowBird 11-01-2002 05:35 PM

I had them fax a copy of the estimate. It would've cost $7700 to repair. That was only what they could see. A bent frame was suspected (explains the sunroof lift).

The cost for the airbags alone was $1480, the bumper and cover was $640, then misc charges for bumper supports and other stuff was $390, the hood and misc charges totaled $590, the headlight assy and side marker stuff was $450, the radiator support panel and misc was $500, right front fender stuff was $500, front wheel alignment and paint and labor finished the total.

It adds up fast.

breakdown of parts = 5155
cost of labor = 2545

So I guess they weren't gonna stick around for damage concealed.

Oh well....I guess I have to find another mid-life crisis.

If I don't by spring can I bring my Legacy turbo to the SVX meet?

I_Alcyone_I 11-01-2002 06:52 PM

Everyone else has said it, but i'll say it again. That totaled it? But there's so little damage.:(
