Almost sold my car at Panera bread today...
I'm standing in line to get some foccacia and some guy asks if that's my SVX out there?
Yeah Wanna sell it?? hehehe No, I'm not selling it. I told him to come here, there are usually some for sale. |

I had a mechanic at an emissions testing outfit ask if mine was for sale. I told him $20K.

If they are willing to pay $10k... direct them my way.

Re: Almost sold my car at Panera bread today...
My first day as an SVX owner a guy offer me $3k for mine at a gas station.
It was on temp plates and on my way to my emissions test so I could register it. I told him I just drove 8 hours and over 500mi to get this car and that it is not for sale. I then told him to try here. :) |
Re: Almost sold my car at Panera bread today...
I would seriously consider a good offer, but if I sold it, I would only turn around and use the money towards a better one, lower miles or 5 speed converted.

I once had a guy who had a friend who really wanted one and saw my silver. I gave him my info, and said I'd need to have $5k for it. This was with the blown high clutch and everything. Just figured if someone was that stupid to give me that much for it, I'd go and get a better one.:D Since then things have changed and my view and perspective are quite a bit different. Like realizing how good of shape my silver really is in minus the whole trans issue that I just can't decide between staying auto or throwing in a 5 spd. |
Re: Almost sold my car at Panera bread today...
I will never sell mine. Too many memories in that car, and by May 2011, the SVX will "have been" in my life for 10 years.
She will always be my longest relationship :D |

How many of you would sell your SVX for $20K if you could never get another one. I would not sell either of my "great ones" if I could never have another one.

As far as I'm feeling right now, I'll always have an SVX. Whether that SVX is MY current (and original) one, is often up for debate considering it's mileage and condition. The debate being there are some great deals to be had here from time to time, and I know my car could probably fetch enough to the untrained eye out in the world that I could "upgrade" straight across. But I always come back to the sentimental thing. Yeah I could trade for a straight body, better paint. Definitely lower miles. Probably better condition internals. But this was my first, and still only, SVX. I've had her almost 11 years. Over 100,000 miles of pure driving bliss in this one car. The car my future wife and I drove all over the state to weekend getaways. The car that drove us to the site where we got engaged. The car my first daughter was almost BORN in! The car that my daughter sits on my lap and steers around our driveway and says she wants to drive someday. That's a lot of memories. Yeah, it's just a car, and those memories don't need the car to still be around, especially if it causes financial hardship. But for now, she's still worth more to me than a nicer SVX. And defnitely more than anything else someone could offer me in a realistic price range. :) |
Re: Almost sold my car at Panera bread today...
I used to be like that...
...but I stopped lying to myself. SVX is an old car on the brink of extinction, that is far from being anything special or otherwise valuable in the history of automobiles. You will be fixing one thing after another for eternity... and the amount of time you actually enjoy it is outnumbered by the numerous frustrations and let downs that it brings into your life. |
