Cam & Crank seals

Went to my new local dealer and they did not have the parts in stock (I'm not surprised). But my local Car-Quest parts place did have Beck/Arnley brand cam & crank seals and timing belt in stock.

I double checked the B/A part numbers on the web, and the part numbers check out for the SVX.

So, anybody know if there is a reason I shouldn't start taking my car apart?

I ask because I got burned using the BCA catalog part numbers for the rear wheel bearing seals - turned out they have/had the wrong numbers in their catalog. O/T to my own post, but I always wondered if they listed the seals for a FWD model and the data entry person figured it would be the same for AWD.

Parts

Hi Lee, I don't know what the mileage is on your SVX , but I would like to get at least as many miles out of the replacement parts. So, unless you got poor life out of the OEM part, I would get on the horn or keyboard to some place like Subaruparts or Liberty Subaru. Take care, BOBB

P/S You don't where those other parts have been! "B"

Thanks Bobb,

However, I went ahead and bought the Beck/Arnley parts and did the swap. Time will tell.:)

Cam & Crank seals

You could get the complete seal kit for the car.

# 10105AA060 Engine Seal Kit $ 253.62

Yes, It might seal expensive....but it is OEM and it is ALL the seals that you will ever need....so down the road....you can fix what leaks...

my thoughts

I'm a little surprised to learn that there are aftermarket timing belts. I thought those were dealer-only.

I wonder if the popularity of the WRX has attracted some a/m manufacturers to make Subaru stuff.

Don't know, but the seals/belt came packaged stating "made in Japan". The belt had the Mitsubishi name along with numbers (but no symbol like the cars).

I assume that Subaru (I know Toyota does this) has captive parts sources. Toyota holds them to 10 years before allowing them to sell items in other distribution channels. 2004-1992=12, so...

Too bad I don't still have the packaging for the seals, I'd report any other markings and see if anybody recognizes numbers, or ???
