AC Compressor not working

I have a 92 SVX. Recently I had a mechanic take off the intake manifold to replace the IRIS valve. The guy who did my intake manifold broke a wire off the back of th ac compressor. The wire connects to a plastic connector that sits on the top of the unit. Now the ac doesn't work. I'm wondering what that wire does and if anyone has one. It looks like it goes to some type of sensor on the back of the compressor. Could really use some advice as the weather's getting warmer. Thanks

Re: AC Compressor not working

It controls the variable discharge valve solenoid and is needed for the system to function.

Did it break so that it can not be reconnected? If not, you're facing replacing the compressor. The solenoid valve is not available separately and there's no gasket / seal kit either.

Do you have the AC manual? There are a few good illustrations in it.

I don't think it can be reconnected. It looks like it broke off right at the compessor, but its hard to see exactly. Do you know anyone that rebuilds or has rebuilt compressors? Thanks

Sorry, I bought a new OEM one (for different reason, though).

I would try with a mirror - maybe you can see if there's any way to reconnect it? I know it is tight..... I presume it could also be possible to remove the compressor and make enough space for this w/o disconnecting the hoses - this way you might be able to do w/o evecuating and recharging the system.

Please see attached a photo of my old compressor. Do not try to open the screw - it won't. It's probably an adjustment of some kind. Haven't taken it apart yet, but I was planning to. I want to find out what's wrong with it .

PS An R134a compressor for a 1996 is $200 cheaper than an R12 one for a 1992.

Thanks for the great picture and the advice. I don't have anything to lose by trying to move the compressor enough to work on it and maybe resolder the wires without dissconnecting lines.

I also heard that if you convert to R134 the whole system has to be reflused and seals changed etc. Is that the case?

Thanks

Re: AC Compressor not working

Pls see my quite recent thread for coversion to R134a... Titel Ac charging thru high port or something.... I'm on mobile right now so no link :-). Pls note also, that you need to remove the alternator to get the compressor out. T

This might be a good candidate...
The guy who did you intake manifold broke a wire off the back of the ac compressor... He is responsible!

Re: AC Compressor not working

I recently had wires break similar to yours on the steering pump. I slowly drilled around the plastic where the wire break was, just enough to expose some more wire. I then placed the wire next to it and puddled solder in the void. I then used silicone to reinforce it, to prevent it from accidently separating. Take your time.
