i think i did something stupid.. mystery harnesses?
i have a 97 lsi
well i was in the fuse box (under the dash) and i noticed some harnesses that didnt connect to anything, i noticed two looked liked they belonged togehter so i plugged em together to see what would happen.. well when i started the car, my check engine light started BLINKING.... yes blinking... instead of jsut coming on for a few min and going off or something liek that it simply was blinking pretty rapidly and consistantly at regular intravals.... so i decided to unplug that harness ASAP... butthe light is still blinking..... so i have now 3 questions WTF are those harnesses for? and where do they lead? (the more specific the knowledge the more ill be able to sleep at night) and what is now wrong with my car? ill take a pic of the issue and circle the harness i connected |

What code does it give?
|
is sounds like you pluged in some older diainostic equipment... this 95 subaru i worked on had half the hook ups for the check engine light blink system one for the subaru slect monitor and one for obd II your prob. going to need to clear what ever code you triped in the OBD II system

Blinking ligh
You may try and take off your ground on your battery, let it sit there for awhile and then hook it back up.
Allways looking for a cheap solution. |
well i unhooked the ground for a day... still blinking light... so i took the battery out of the car for another day.... when i put it back in...still blinking "check engine light" i had to use it to get to work... it drove fine, butthe blinking check ingine light is a concern.... anyone have any idea what those harnesses are???? anyone got like a book or something with schematics?
|
well i had the codes read at my gf's dad's girage.. .and no codes were coming through.... apparently the code machine doesnt realise i have a check engine light blinking...... any thoughts when it was set to clear the codes it didnt change anything.....
so now to recap.... i have a blinking check engine light the car is not giving off any codes clearing the codes does not stop the blinking disconnecting the battery does not stop the blinking SOMEbody has had to have had this problem... i cant believe im the only one. |
Well one thing to check is fuses. Hooking up things that arent supoose to be can blow fuses pretty quickly. You could have blow a fuse to something that isnt all that important or not regularly used. It's unlikely that something like that would be unnoticed but it is possible and doesnt take long to check and it's free.

Are you sure you unhooked the correct connectors?....

When I was little, being an inquisitive sort, I took a length of wire I'd found in my grandparents' barn and stuck it into a lamp socket. Never did that again. Sorry, kuroneko_sama, just messin' with you. Good luck sorting out the trouble. dcb |
I connected the same 2 plugs together that you did and I didnt have any problems. :/

Does the car run?
|
it runs fine as if there is nothing wrong
except the check engine light thingy.... what does that harness do if it worked fine on you should it be plugged in??? im driving my van in the meantime not sure i should do too much till i at least know what happened...its hard to feel cool driving a minivan though |

the other was the ones i plugged in and got all blinky so i unplugged it right away if when he plugged them in and had no result.... should it be plugged in?? .. i only did it cause i thought maybe it became unplugged sometime and shoulda been in in the first place... stupid subaru...why have harnesses to nowhere, its liek a non working browning knob on a toaster |
that sounds like my Check Engine Light. it tunrns on and off about every other day. but this is unrelated and i need to replace my O2 sensors sometime soon :( but it isn't dead yet because my gas mileage is as good as ever still :p
Anyway, hope you figure this out :) |
