APPEAL for a new James; information needed

G'day sports

Down Under peoples; the Network needs your help.

Currently Earl and myself are compiling a registry of all known SVX cars. Needless to say it is not complete and may never contain every SVX in the world. But that does not stop us trying to get it as full and as comprehensive as possible.

Being a Network member and having your car on a registry is already a help to members insuring their cars as classics in some countries. For certain it will be a help to us all in the future as the cars get more rare.

The help we need is this; we need somebody to take on the responsibility of collecting all existing and new data about Australia and New Zealand cars. This can be two somebodies and it is totally all right if you would see a benefit to keeping a different register for Australia and for New Zealand. So long as the information is captured and logged and archived and kept up to date.

It's not that difficult and if some bodies are willing to give it a go you will get help from us, we'll send you existing spreadsheets etc. Anybody logging on regularly could keep it current no problem.

If you could respond to the appeal I'll set the ball rolling.

Thanks

Joe :D

Re: APPEAL for a new James; information needed

Thanks P.

You're always helpful and assiduous so you fit the job description to a T. If your email address has not changed I can mail you a spreadsheet to be getting along with.

Otherwise PM me your email.

If anybody else would like to help, chip in. It's collecting information, so the more helping the easier it is and the less chance we miss something.

What's involved:

Build a spreadsheet of all the known cars in Australia and New Zealand. There are a certain number of minimum details we require to keep track of cars, but the reality is you could make the list ridiculously long by including detail like what equipment the cars are supplied with. And so on.

But initially we are only interested in identifying what cars are there.

To build the list we naturally start by adding in Network member's cars. We don't have full details on all cars that Down Under members own. Yet.

Hopefully this move will bring this about pretty soon.

Thanks paddles, and anyone else willing to help.

Joe

Hey, is it possible to have a sticky in the downunder section where post #1 can be the spreadsheet that paddles looks after with the sections "forum" and "non-forum" and in the following posts people can write up SVX they've seen or own that aren't yet registered and then paddles can continiously edit/update his 1st post with attachment.

Jordan.

In a word Jordan, yes. But there are complications.

The forum software does not support spreadsheets but we will be publishing the list anyway so that members can see what cars are on it and where they now are or last known location.

Your suggestion is a very good one and what I had in mind for this is a sticky on the down under forum where all members can post details of their own cars and details of cars they have seen or discovered. It would be useful if members could post links to cars they have seen for sale on eBay or on TradeMe or elsewhere. That way all the advertised information could be collected.

Anybody interested in engaging with the project can be sent a copy of the spreadsheet list which is currently being built up. Let me know if anyone is willing to devote some time to it.

I'll engage with the sticky later so you can see the format.

Joe :)

Joe,

Where is the "old" James? He did so much for this network, as well as a great job in securing manuals from Japan. His enthusiasm is sorely missed.

I make no excuse for raising this here, in view of the very fitting title given the thread.

If you are around James, ---- Kia ora. ;):)

James is working in London now Trevor and seldom logs in.

He does not currently have an SVX; currently he is scratching a different itch, buying various German uberwagon auto bahnstormers.

He did wonderful work for the SVX world, and hopefully he will be back at some stage.

:)

Cam what you say is correct and similar applies in the UK, but you are taking a very narrow view if you don't mind my saying so. The list will include NZ where there are a lot of Japanese imports plus there are some in Australia.

These come in CXD and CXW variants and with many options. To get a complete list it would require categorising these issues.

For the moment we are more keen to identify what cars are there and who has them. Later we can add detail.

Joe.

Hi all

Sorry that I am rarely on here now - I do have a quick look every now and again to see what it happening (and if my old car is still around). Well and truely scratching the itch with German schnellbarges including a rather nice 255kph trip in a 1998 CL500 on an autobahn - planted like a rock.

I will have a dig around since I believe I may have a document that lists the VIN's and rego's, including number of owners, colour etc from when I was looking all those years ago...wow....has it been that long. I think I may have had about 100 or so cars listed (partial info or full info).

Have a great Christmas.

James

Don't worry - it is!:D

I have also not been very active on the forums as of late - there are far fewer Australian SVX owners on here than there were a couple of years ago......

.......I guess that there are fewer SVXs around as well........:(

You will be pleased to know that my (your:rolleyes:) SVX is still in mint condition and running beautifully, but since I want to keep it that way, I am not driving it as often. My poor Vortex died earlier this year (a combination of various mechanical problems that were not worth fixing, along with ignition module and ECU failure:eek:), so my current daily driver is a 1991 Liberty Heritage - that is, until I can find an immaculate Vortex 4WD Turbo........:D

Good to see that you are still around!!

Jason.
