Strut killer SVX! Need some input

Since October of last year we've now killed 4 pairs of rear (OEM) struts on the race car. No one will sell us just rear Koni's for the SVX and truth be told it really doesn't need 'em with the diet she's had but we need something that'll last. It has H&R +-200lb WRX springs front and back which give it a very nice little body roll ride but also keeps the wheel in contact with the ground nicely. I can't push the front down for the life of me more than 1/2 an inch pushing on the fender.

Our thought is to put Konis for a WRX in the back since they are available for just the rears (have SVX konis up front already). Does anybody have the inserts lying around that they can measure before installing so I can be sure they will fit into the housing and function decently?

Other thought is that the towing is putting a hurt on the struts as the rear bounces with the trailer and it seems that the struts go bad while on it or we notice it when taking it off. We've thought about blocking the rear so it doesn't have any suspension travel on the trailer. Are we thinking straight???

send me a couple of these blown struts and i modify them to you, believe me they are way better than Konis...

Since my order of Konis included only one strut from the odl batch"serated" I am shipping it back to classic garage to get a new one. I made a suggestion that they sell you guys a set of rears to get rid of this random strut. I dunn if u want to bite but it may be worth a shot. He said he would have to check his inventory and he would get back in otuch with me.... So, do u guys want a set of Konis for the rear???

So Danny, what exactly do you do to them? Like Ben said, we do have a few extra sets of bad ones...

Tom,
Is there someone in particular we should call and talk to? Or are we waiting to hear from him?

This guys cuts the strut out, modifies it from the inside (he is really good in it) you specify how hard you want it to be (either as it was when new, or moderate or hard or extra hard) and then he does what he does without anyone seeing him, I can assure they are still oil based, nothing added except new rubber sealings and...... i dunno what and then makes like a screw bolt on the strut (like if you inserted a cartidge and then put the screw back) and here it goes. believe me it is the best mod i have done so far on my SVX. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND IT, TRUST ME ON THIS.

What kind of cost are we looking at?
We can put his info on the race car as a sponsor??? :D

TomsSVX 08-01-2005 02:21 PM

Yeah, I am waiting to hear from him but give him a call and let him know who is interested and tell him I was speaking about it. His name is Tim and the # is 845-940-1900. Good luck I hope this helps u guys out

for each strut $75. for all $300. but believe me it is worth it

TomsSVX 08-01-2005 09:02 PM

.....or you could get a set of Konis for $30 more and no shipping and have konis on all 4 corners..... Not to shoot you down Danny but I trust Koni more than some guy "modifying" stock struts

Or we can buy the WRX konis which will be around when these blow and koni won't fix 'em b/c they were for racing and save more money $ as I've seen 'em for as low as $130.

Which is why I need a measurement of the entire length of the SVX strut insert the actual insert housing length and the diameter of the insert to determine if I can make a WRX one work. :D

Good luck, I've been asking for measurements for a year or so now.

TomsSVX 08-02-2005 10:24 AM
