is there any special way to replace a wheel stud?

Re: wheel studs

It's easiest, if you pull the hub. But then you need to deal with the pressing the bearing.

The ABS tone ring is in the way to just pound them out. When I did it on the racer, we didn't have ABS so I just pounded them out and shattered the rings. If you leave the hub in place, you may be able to unbolt the tone ring and shift it out of the way. IIRC on both the front and the rear, there are certain areas where there is clearance to let the stud get past the knuckle.

ya i had a feeling i'd have to remove the tone but i dont wanna go through the hassle and expense of pulling the hub.
when i did it on my friends sunfire it was a simple hammer out and hammer in.
but imports are diff from domestics

Try to do it that way. I'd treat the allen screws that hold the tone ring to some penetrating oil. Usually they aren't bad, but I have seen some rusty ones, and have had to cut the ring to remove it...

I've done them on a couple different Legacys by loosening the tone ring and shifting it around- haven't tried on an SVX but I wouldn't be surprised if it's possible.
