Looking for a TCU

Hi,

After working away from the UK for the last three months, I'm now back and ready for the next phase of work on getting my SVX back on the road.

I'm currently struggling to find a TCU for the car, it's a 1994 'L' uk spec car. Does anyone know of one breaking?

Thanks.

L.

I think i'll have a TCU i'm not using (after 5MT switch) but probably not for a week or two. Would that be soon enough to help you? It's not UK spec; that would probably make it worthless to you. If not, let me know.

Hi,

A week or two would be fine, I'd like to try it anyway, could I have it on sale or return? How much would you be looking for?

The US TCU won't work in a Euro model. The C solenoid, that operates the transfer clutch, in the US mod, will cause the Limited Slip clutch in the Euro AWD Mod to bind. You do need one from a Euro model.

Bugger.

You wouldn't happen to know where I could get a euro spec one then? Subaru UK have quoted me £695 + VAT.

Is the part common with any other model Subaru transmissions e.g. a 4Cam Legacy?

Not much help, I know, but here's one for £399. Plus you get a few extra parts thrown in.

I've already emailed the seller, he won't break the car, and I haven't got room to store another vehicle at my house :(

Sorry, no its not the same as any other models, TCU. Any model SVX, other than a US or Canadian model will do.

Why do you need another, what went wrong with the orignal one.?

Harvey. ;)

I had my gearbox swapped out as the fore-clutch was burned out and not shifting above second. When the new 'box was fitted it still wouldn't shift out of second, then it's been sat for 3 months while I've been out of the country. Really want to get it sorted.

Might be able to help

Jason

I have one that will probably work for you.

It is from a JDM car, I think it is '92, but I can check that out.
In any event, it will probably work, it's the right type of gearbox.

I can bring it over in a month's time, I'm coming over for the JAE.
Or, I can post to you, and if it doesn't work you can return it to me, money back, at JAE.

PM me with your number and we can haggle.

Joe :)

It is passing strange that two gearboxes won't shift out of second. Is this why you suspect the TCU?

Picture of a TCU

Does anyone have a picture of an SVX TCU?

I might've found a breakers yard with a semi-complete car, but the bloke on the phone wasn't sure what to look for...

Cheers,

Jason

I don't have a picture but I can tell you where it is and you can have a look at the one on your car.

If you recline the drivers seat all the way back and lie down with your head by the brake pedal looking upwards you will see two silver boxes with lots of wires going into them. The one with yellow plugs is the ECU and the other is the TCU.

It's easier if you first remove the ecsaine panel below the steering wheel (screws are behind the switches).

Not entirely sure whether the JDM and Euro TCUs are compatible. The JDM trans has a separate speed sensor in the front diff and the loom appears similar to the US cars. The Euro SVX has the speed sensor inside the trans and the wiring is as shown in harvey's locker.

Thanks a lot, you are an absolute star.

SVX TCU pics

Jason

If you go to my locker, I have just uploaded 2 pics of the TCU showing what it looks like both with the ECU and on its own.

Joe :)
