SVXWN - NW Area Group

We no longer have the Northwest SVX Site to keep tabs on the activities in this area, so I thought we should have an area where new members can introduce themselves and ask questions about activities in their area. We have been very active in the greater Seattle area, and have had meets all over the state. Hope to meet you soon. I will start by introducing myself -

I am ensteele, aka Earl, who lives in the Burlington area. I have been a member here since January 2002, and was a member on the Yahoo site before that. I host a few meets during the year and attend as many as I can. Watch this section in the regional area for upcoming meets. Hope to see you at one of the meets in the near future. :) :)

Re: SVXWN - NW Area Group

I'm MacGyver, aka Troy, and have owned my SVX since April 2000.

I joined the old Yahoo SVX group before I bought my SVX, but then joined this wonderful group in May of 2001. :)

I've put together more SVX events around the Northwest than I can count and led the NW group for it's 5 year run.

I live in Monroe, WA.

Like Earl said, watch this forum for upcoming meets and come on out!

I'm Andrew, I live in Corvallis (GO BEAVERS!!!!) and have been a member since September of 2007, finally got my SVX in October of 2007. I'm a Subaru/Toyota technician, so I try to provide technical advice whenever I can.

I'm Erik and my wife is Jill (she comes to all the meets, and loves "my" SVX).

I owned my 1st SVX in 2000 (then traded it away ). Got my 2nd SVX a few years back, and have been part of the forums every since.

I've co-hosted 3 of the Portland/ SW WA meets along with Mark. (Columbia Gorge '07, Mt. St. Helens "all fog edition," and Mt. St. Helens "Redux.")

We live in Vancouver, WA

Re: SVXWN - NW Area Group

I'm more of a lurker here, I have a 92 that I purchased for my daughter when she went to WWU in 2000. She has moved on but her car remains. I have had as many as 3 svx's at any one time, but am down to the original at the moment. I was seduced by the rotary and have over 25 Rx7's in various states of decomposition, it is a sickness (lol).
I am hoping to run across a ebony pearl/ tan 94 so that i can be a 2 svx household again, but so far my $ and the right car have not intersected.

The NW still includes your neighbor to the south, Oregon, does it not?

We currently live in West Linn and have made more than a couple forays into the Evergreen State, on both sides of the Sound and up & down the Gorge, too. Purchased our 1992 Claret LSL new and she's still goin' strong 17+ years and 182K later.

I believe still have the dubious distinction of driving my SVX the longest distance to attend the ReadingX meet earlier this year.

Cheers!

Yes Norm, you are included. :D You did drive the farthest to that meet. ;) :)

Howdy Group
My Name is Chip. I have been a member since March of '07 and started lurking in late '06. I have owned 2 SVX's but am down to 1. I sold my white '92 to my son and my red '96 is my daily driver. Although Reading is unlikely, I would love to attend some of the future functions. Everett Wa. is where I live, and I hope to meet all of you soon.

Re: SVXWN - NW Area Group

A red daily driver in Everett? Chances are I've probably passed by you a few times before. :) I'm in Monroe, so around the Everett area from time to time.

Re: SVXWN - NW Area Group

I commute to Woodinville to work, and see a nice black SVX in Woodinville from time to time. I also Ski at Stevens Pass and see another black SVX up there. Here in Everett I have seen an elderly gentleman clogging up traffic on 128th West of I-5 with his Teal SVX.
Generally I try to keep an eye out for sightings...

Hi Chip Good to have you in the NW area. I will get you on the list for members around here for local meets. :)

I commute from Monroe to Bothell 4 days a week so we probably don't quite cross paths, but very close.

If you ever see a slightly beat up Claret (maroon) with customs wheels give me a honk and wave. :)

Keep checking in here too, we will be having another meet in the area sometime in the next couple months I'm sure!

Hi Chip. I,m Larry. Have 96 LSi, brilliant red. Drive it between Tulalip and Boeing Everett flight line most every day. 2nd shift.

Chip Hutchinson 01-21-2010 06:10 AM

Re: SVXWN - NW Area Group

Hi Larry,
My '96 is also red. The pieces above the rear quarter panel that have the SVX logo on them are quite faded. Has this happened to yours also? Is this piece painted or is the plastic red and fading? I don't recall seeing this on any but the red ones...
I may eventually repaint mine, but if I do it will probably become a yellow car with either a red ar black top.

Chip.

FUDDMAN 01-21-2010 02:34 PM

Re: SVXWN - NW Area Group

Yes, both of those panels and mirrors are oxidized and faded. Much more on mine than my wife's. You're right, only the briliant red ones have this problem. Subaru outsorced these parts for painting. The problem is in the paint process and chemical makeup of the paint.

I'm Rob and I feel like a noob, its been so long since I've posted here :o
I've had 3 SVXi (at one time) but am currently down to one.
I sold my Ebony last year and I think that may be the one you are seeing up in the Everett area. It has tinted windows and Nissan Murano wheels.
Man, I miss that car :(
Been working alot on my other Subaru's, just got my latest one (Brat) on the road. Also, a new gf is putting a damper on my wrenching. But I'm not complaining :D I need to get my Polo going so I can make some meets, I miss driving the SVX.

Re: SVXWN - NW Area Group

Hey there.
I'm Andrew.
I just recently bought a 92' ebony LS-L.
After fixing a minor stalling problem, (MAF sensor) I've come to like it even more.
Some of my friends call it my "old guy sport coupe".:D
I've driven IH Scouts for over 20 years, and this is my first "car".
I've liked Subarus for a while but in choosing the svx, I had to be different.
I live in Everett and work at Boeing. There are 2 other svx's that I've seen near there.
That's it for now.

Larry, I drive the teal SVX that was on the flightline a few parking spots away from you last summer! I have to say, you have one good looking (very clean) SVX. I always tried to get through the gate at the right time to run into you, but never had the luck.

Anyways, I am the proud owner of a Dark Teal '92 and have recently moved from Everett to Lynnwood and am not driving her at this time. I am currently rebuilding the engine  and driving my brothers hyundai :(.

Any chance I could get on that wishlist for meets around here???

Re: SVXWN - NW Area Group

Thanks for the compliment. I'm on second shift in stall 112. the next scheduled meet is April 10 at Earl's in Burlington. It's a maintenance meet, donuts, and kick the tires thing. I have a short route laid out through the tulip fields with a stop at PACCAR. PACCAR has a verry interesting open house. Then a dessert stop at the Farmhouse.

Re: SVXWN - NW Area Group

Thanks ensteele.
One other thing.
Has anyone else seen the "RARE, low mileage" black 92' in Puyallup that
is on Craig's List?
After I went to see it, I had to apologize to my brother for wasting a Saturday to go look at what turned out to be one level above a turd.:barf:
There were more things wrong with it than is room to list.
At least he recently dropped the price by 1 grand. But I think it's still 2 grand
more than what it's worth.
I think mine is in better shape even with more miles, and I sure didn't pay near what he wants.

Unfortunately my car will not be back together by april 1st unless divine intervention occurs :o. I certainly do not want to rush the re assembly though. I would still love to show up and say hello, share pics and have a good time with some fellow enthusiasts.

Earl, if you wouldnt mind PM'ing me some directions, I could certainly see if I could make it up to your neck of the woods. Sounds like it would be a good time.

Hello
I'm Dan and I own a 92 SVX Silver / Black. I also work at Boeing on 2nd. I talked to Larry today and he told me about the meet this weekend. I'll try to make it this weekend. If some could send me directions for it that would be big +. Thanks.
Dan

Re: SVXWN - NW Area Group

UF320! You park near the south east corner correct? I was admiring your SVX today on the way out. Seeing one consistently makes me miss mine even more, since I am stuck in a POS hyundai for the time being. I have been trying to run into you in the parking lot but you always seem to be inside the gates already by the time I locate your car at the end of shift. You have a very nice condition SVX from what I can see from the outside. I admit, I have looked through the windows like a kid in a candy store. :o

Do you work on the 787 or is that the only place you can find parking at that time of the day :p

Andrew P. 05-22-2010 01:33 AM

Re: SVXWN - NW Area Group

Hey Cam.
I'm Andrew. I also park in the same lot as Dan (UF320).
I have the Ebony 92' with grey painted stock wheels and tinted windows.
Dan's is the only other one I've seen at work.
I also work 2nd shift, (787).

Trystan, I'm in Silverton, OR and have a 1996 teal SVX that drives beautifully but has some dents from the previous owner and a big one in the door because my neighbor backed into it. It's my first car and I love it and I got it for way less than it's worth. I've seen 2 other SVX's in the area.

ensteele 05-31-2010 08:31 AM

Re: SVXWN - NW Area Group

It was for sale for $2,200 a while back, is that what you paid for it? If so, that was a good buy. :) A little work and you can have that one in very good shape. ;)

Hi

I am a big Subie fan (I have an '08 STi) and always wanted an SVX. Just bought a well worn black '97 LSi with 91k miles. It's a project for me and my sons for this summer and we're looking forward to making it much more presentable! :D

Welcome to the addiction! We should all have a local meet soon, as I have yet to make one and there a quite a few new people popping up here in the Seattle area. With all the nice weather, it may be time for a maintenance meet. Hopefully my car will be running again.

TSYSVX 06-15-2010 03:44 PM

Re: SVXWN - NW Area Group

That would be great! But I might have to drive my other Subie if I don't have the SVX running better. We'll see after tomorrow when the guys at Smart have a look at her!

Tom - welcome to the site. It is great that we have another member in the area. We are a pretty active group and we have our annual Dabob Seafood Meet at the end of July. I hope you can make that one. Let us know if you have any questions and we will help as much as we can. Hope to see you soon. :)

I got your car registered and you now have your registration badge. :)

I saw a claret today parked outside the Everett Event Center. Tinted windows, 5-spoke wheels, and a '97 grill (or I guess it could have been a 97 car). Very clean. I was extremely impressed (and jealous). Anyone know who it could belong to?

ensteele 06-20-2010 12:39 PM

Re: SVXWN - NW Area Group

I would guess it is MacGyver's. He lives near by, so it could be his. He has custom wheels as well. :)

All I know is it was damn sexy, and I am assuming whoever it belonged to knows someone in the 2010 graduating class at Cascade High School. (graduation was last night at comcast arena).

By the way Earl, what are the details on the Dabob seafood meet? Although I do not eat seafood generally, I would love to make a meet.

Thanks Earl- for the welcome and the badge!

Where is Dabob? I hope to get the car reasonably presentable by then!

A quick question- where's a good place in WA to buy parts? I was trying to take apart my rear side marker lens (full of water) and snapped the end off!

Oh well, at least I don't have to worry about the water anymore!
