Lifting the SVX

Has anyone done it? I did a search and couldn't find anyone that has tried to get a little more ground clearance out of the SVX. I've been taking mine off road quite a bit lately, and I'm always hitting rocks and dragging the exhaust on things. I don't want a huge lift, maybe another 1.5 or 2 inches. Spring spacers are about the only thing I can think of, as it there aren't any aftermarket springs to lift it. Suggestions please.

You could use the ground control coil-overs to lift the car.

IMO, the SVX is not an offroad car. It's a on-road sports car meant to go fast on smooth roads. If you want to offroad, I would suggest an Impreza or Legacy.

My SVX is very competitive on a semi-preppared snow track. I suck at it, but the car's amazing. The track pretty rough sometimes, but the SVX just plows through without issue.

The svx can do very well offroad you just have to swerve a lot to miss the big rocks. Even if you do hit some rocks the bottom of the car is strong (or maybe i'm lucky?). Either way it's a subaru so you should take it offroad.

For the real oil on this, P.M. Dessertrunner. He has been there and done it in a big way. :D

P.S. Back track on his threads and photos.

That's different than rocks and 4 or 5 inch drops in the terrain. I think that's what the OP is talking about.

I caught air and rotated 45 degrees in mid-air on one run, followed by a 50' slide through a snowbank. Is that good enough?:D:lol:

But no, you're right. Snow tracks are much more forgiving that an offroad rally stage. There's little for me to hit that will hurt the car, and any ruts usually have snow in them to pad the impact.

I think Mychailo has a spring/shock combo that will raise the car. No sure how much.

Perhaps some clarification on the meaning of "off road"...

"off road" as in dirt roads

or

"off road" as in no roads?

Dirt, snow, high speed I can see, but I would think an 80s wagon would do better in a "no roads" situation.

Hondasucks 02-05-2008 07:07 PM

Go talk to Bill Mikkelson at North Campus, he's the Collision coordinator, nice guy, tell him Andrew from Oregon told ya to come see him, he's always findin 80s wagons lol, I'm sure he'd like to see your SVX, he's a subaru head...

SilverSpear 02-06-2008 12:20 PM

I fabbed 1" aluminum plates and installed them in the back above the rear struts...

LetItSnow 02-06-2008 01:55 PM

Scorpion makes some kits for Subarus. I'll play odds against an SVX application, but the world's funny.

reptar_head 02-08-2008 06:03 PM

My "off road" consists of some dirt roads with big rocks that hit the underbody and drops offs/ruts more than 6-8", roads with lots of snow (higher than the bumper), and some no road situations where a very large rock catches me off guard. I don't go crazy, the above situations are simply what I've encountered driving around the state of Wyoming enjoying the outdoors.

So I'll swing by tech and talk to Bill at some point, I remember his name, just can't put a face on the name.

1" spacers on the strut mounts doesn't seem like a bad idea, any other experiences with this?

Here's some pics of last weekend.

oh god.....

why?

Buy a 4X4 for a thousand bucks to wreck. The SVX will never be any good at anything more extreme than dirt roads, and you won't be wrecking a rare and beautiful sports car.
