Plan on pulling a Tranny next weekend
 

Um...Never done anything like this before. Tools I will need? Suggestions?

Going to do it in my garage up on jack stands I would assume.

Should be fun, if I dont mess it up, so please ideas, what to look for, is there write up about this?

I hope that you're working with someone that has done it before. Cause if I did it myself it'd never get back togethor.

Take a lot of pictures and notes. I bought a crappy old dresser from goodwill and use it to keep my parts in order as I take them off. I've found that it eliminates 'extra parts' when the job is finished.

Check out the 5-spd install and it will show how to take out the auto. :)

Make sure to have plenty of strong (2 Ton) jackstands under the car, as you're going to be pulling on the trans to get it separated from the engine. Last thing you want is for the car to drop off a stand:eek: You'll also want to see if you can get a motorcycle jack to use on the trans - it's a little more stable that just using a regular floor jack.

There is a local place that sells a tranny jack sizer lift style with 400lb support for sale for under $100...think I should just get one of those?

Yes, there will be a few of us working on it and I know one of them has done some work like this before. I already have multiple boxes setup for parts, hopefully that will be enough.

8MM, 10MM, 12MM, 14MM, 17MM, 19MM, 22MM sockets and wrenches
6" extension for torque converter bolts
2" extension
flat + phillips screwdrivers
small prybar
a proper sized punch and a hammer to pop out the axle pins
10 quarts of tranny fluid
1-2 quarts of differential fluid
new internal filter and gasket

I'm pretty sure that about covers it off the top of my head as far as tools and fluids go and so on.:) If you find Svxfiles write up on it, It will tell you all you need to know. Good luck.;)

I just did this a few weeks ago and I also pulled my trans apart and am now rebuilding it.

Here's basically what I did.
1. Remove Exhaust.
2. Drain trans and disconnect trans fluid cooler lines from radiator.
3. Remove front drive axles.
4. Remove rear driveshaft
5. Disconnect all wiring harnesses and shift cable.
6. Remove starter.
7. Remove plate for access to torque converter bolts.
8. Remove transmission to firewall stabilizer bar.
9. Remove torque converter bolts by spinning engine over to get to the next one.
10. Remove bell housing bolts and place jack under trans.
11. Remove rear transmission mount.
12. Jack up the front end of the engine to make a better angle for sliding the transmission off the pins.
13. Remove transmission while making sure the torque converter stays connected to the trans.

If I remember correctly, thats the order I did it.
