Any Tranny rebuild shops in Tampa - Cent FL? Cost?

After more than 6 years of SVX sobriety, I'm thinking of selling my 2004 Saab 9-5 Aero and picking up a '92 SVX LS from the local Subaru dealer.

It has a bad transmission (of course) and they won't sell it fixed, saying there's only one rebuilt tranny in the country available.

Does anyone know a good re-builder in the Central Florida (particularly Tampa) area??? How much should that cost?

I want to stick with the auto tranny, I'm too lazy to shift in Tampa traffic!

Thanks... someone please talk me out of this :)

Jeff

First of all, you don't really need the stock tranny in your SVX.. You could always get a 4.11 or a 4.44 for more "get up n go" so to speak.. If you're really set on getting a rebuilt stock one though, I've never even seen FL so I can't help, sorry..

As for someone talking you out of the purchase... You came to the wrong place for that :P lol

Thanks! Could you kindly elaborate more on the 4.11 and 4.44 more? What transmissions are these?

Check car-parts.com for used trannys in your area. Besides SVX, '95-'97 Legacy 2.2 liter will be the 4.11, 2.5 liter will be the 4.44, both lower gearing than the SVX (a little more low end punch). You will have to also get the matching rear end and follow the directions found in svxfiles signature.

More info on a 4.44 swap here, my friend..

It's actually the transmission I prefer since it's still auto and has more of a kick..

Good to see the car fails in the hands of a member here. I was thinking about buying it as well( It was on ebay and local CL) Trany shift fine when cold but slip when warm up.
Its got the exact same problem as one of my parts car. Tried everything to resolve the problem but gave up, I ended up parting it out.
Good luck finding a replacement! I would go with the 4.44 swap.
BTW, do you know how many members here in Tampa aera?

As I can attest to, my ECU Tune tranny was less than expected for $3500. It lasted about 6K miles. Having no warranty I can just blame myself for the purchase. I hope others don't do the same.

What are you saying??

Did you buy one from the http://www.ecutune.com/4eat.htm link?

If so why was it cheaper?

If so, why no warranty?

Dang, no wonder we are confused
I am pretty sure you know what you can attest to:lol:

Hope you have a great New Years!

yes form Emery, LAN, for the price above. Claims do not equal a warranty.
