is this short block dead?
 

I just got an SVX shortblock and I noticed that one of the piston walls has a nick and corrosion at the top of the cylinder. It is the middle piston on the pass side and it goes all the way through the aluminum and hits the metal sleeve. The sealing surface on the cylinder is gone so the only way to use the block is to repair it.
I will take pics tomorrow and post it so you can see what I am dealing with.

I figure my options are
1) use some metal based epoxy on it and hope for the best
2) take it to a welder get it welded
3) resleeve the engine for a EJ20 92mm piston and get more sealing surface back.

has anyone tried using JB weld or the like for an application like this?

Would there be any benefits from using a 92mm piston?

resleeving is going cost a hell of a lot, but more than likely going to be the only way to fix the block... I would never use any resin or apoxies on a crack in a block... Just asking for a headache

Talked to a auto machine shop who recommended a welder in the area who does a lot of work with engine.
Welder said he could weld it up. Hopefully this will solve the problem.

Charging me $45 to do it.

sound good. then all you have to do is mill it flat. do you have any pics of the damage? get some before and after for future reference.

welding is a solution, but AL takes a lot of heat... Make sure the cylinder walls do not get warped or damaged in the process and like Mike already said, that the deck surface is milled

Yeah, you could see some weird camming in the cylinder with that type of repair.
