Am I the only one..
 

who thinks svx's should just be left stock? They don't seem very mod-friendly at all and already have reliability issues which aftermarket stuff doesn't really help. I don't know, I kinda like having one as a nice, quiet daily driver with just enough pickup to make me grin.. why ruin a good thing? Maybe I'm just getting old :( ;)

I take pride in my mods. I like to be creative and reap the benefits of my labors... It is my passion to do stuff like this... Maybe one day I will get out of it, but for now I enjoy what I do

Depends on which mods you are talking about. Some mods are done for better reliability, such as tranny filters, coolers, and shift kits. Also, a 4.11/4.44 or 5 speed swap to make it more dependable. Also, some of the mods done for appearance would be ok, like changing the disgusting waterfall grill to a smallcar or a "97 grill. Also, ECU tune is a good mod that will help in alot of different areas. I think mods like this are ok. But should every SVX be made into a turbo? No, I dont think so.

Stock Look
 

I prefer the stock look. I have not seen anyone yet that has improved the overall appearance of the original design. I do prefer the 97 stock grille but consider that fully stock. However, I don't mind some mostly invisible mods or JDM items such as Koni struts with improved springs, powder coated disk calipers, slotted/drilled rotors with braided brake lines, alcyone hood emblem and/or rear garnish etc. I barf when I see spoilers other than stock except that I can tolerate the JDM version. I understand 5 and 6 speed MTs, but personally would prefer a Level 10 auto if necessary. Some aftermarket wheels are ok as long as they are 17 or 18 and have only 5 mounting holes. :) Engine tweeks that slightly improve power output are also acceptable and I don't mind the Stebro exhaust when the stock needs to be replaced. It is a little loud at WOT, but during normal driving it sounds fine.

I like the stock look, I dont really like cars that have all the "tricked" out stuff on them, (like the widebody SVX that went on ebay a while back) I cant stand those, what a waste of a good car..... so..... STOCK ALL THE WAY ~Dennis

Well as you know guys, Japanese cars are more apt to get "tricked out" more than others. I went with the fiberkit on my SVX because I saw in it a lot of potential concerning this issue. If you really check the SVX that was shown in 1989, well it had a more "daring" look than the actual one. I went a little bit over the 1989 prototype, people love it a lot.

We own a small parking lot (for 75 cars), I spend a lot of my afterwork time over there. Well people who park come and ask me what car brand is that, most of them just take pics of it using their mobile cameras or digital cameras... believe it or not, most of them are above 40, so not just kids. I know the comservative guys like Ricochet, lhopp77, mysvxrocks and lot of others do not like such bodykits, but I am happy with it, because it really turns heads... well it even breaks necks :D :D .

I also admit that advancing in age, I am also thinking of doing something to my spoiler. Well it is more like 18-25 (year old) tastes. I will be soon 27 and in few years, the "M" word bus will be coming to take me for a looooong ride :D , so I don't think that style would be, ME for days to come.:rolleyes:

I should get my hands of another completely "STOCK" SVX as a daily calm driver.

I agree with the stock look.

I like the waterfall and headlight design. When they are crystal clear and polished, they look exquisite and unlike any other car. The same with the wheels; it is a beautiful design and complements the car well. I wish they were 17" but...

Anyway, think back to the first time you saw your first SVX, whether in a showroom or on the road. More than likely the car you fell in love with was probably stock.

The one I fell in love with was stock, it was a brilliant red 94 LSi, and I was working for the lady that owned it, actually she moved into the office right next door to my house, and I was walking back from the post office and asked them if they needed help moving the stuff out of the u-haul. Then I saw the SVX, and well you can just picture the look on my face. And from that day I have thought about the SVX pretty much everyday, even now... when I dont have one. But I will say this, SOMEDAY I will get another SVX. I dont know how, but one day I will. ~Dennis

I love the way it looks. Waterfall grille and Smallcare grille both look good. Now, though, it is so much more fun to drive. When I got my first one, back in 97 (92 LSi), one of the first things I did was drive from Atlanta to Princeton, NJ. It was great on the highway; I could take my hands of the wheel, for what seemed like minutes, and it would track straight as an arrow. On my current one, though, I wanted more. The excessive lean in corners was getting me down. So, I started down this road, and now I have a very diferent car. It still tracks straight, but it corners, and the acceleration is much more exciting. I had forgotten how a standard transmission is so much more gratifying than an automatic. So, it's still an SVX, but it's as hot as my 82 Porsche used to be.

Stocks good, modified rights good too, I dont care.
I can see why u would like to keep your svx stock, but others will not agree, and let them be.

If I had my way, I'd have two. Onw to leve stock so it can sit in the garage all winter, and one to mod up and tear around town year round.

As far as astetics go..Im keeping my waterfall grille, its very distinguishable. The car's stock body lines are great. the wheels fit the car nicely, though there are benifits to updated wheels. The spoiler though....In its stock location just doesnt look right. I actually prefer my svxi without the spoiler, or with the spoiler moved back to help it follow the body lines better.
The big suspsention and engine mods..they are cool, and yeah, they add to the sportyness of the car. Some people take it a little overboard and end up with a car that doesnt ride too smooth and handles good...but not as good as something that weighed 1200 pounds less.
But hell, alot of the highly modified svxi are cool too...so whatever.my big gripe is that the work done to the car has to be done right. if your going to do updated bumpers, make them fit right. I dont want to see roofing nails and duct tape holding the "Awesome new" parts on.things like Dayle's stick on carbon fiber dash kits (Ive seen a few installed) are so poorly made that you were probly better off painting it on. Also, if your doing engine work, make sure it actually runs smooth. I see alot of things like the adjustable fuel pressure regulator doing nothing more than making the car run rich, and I sure as hell have seen some poorly done 5 speed installs, where you have so much drivline noise and slop its sickening. I say modify it the right way or dont do it at all.

IMHO, suspension mods make a very worthwhile improvement in the handling of an SVX. Springs and swaybar bushings for less than $450 will give a much more sporty ride with no loss in ride quality. Most basic engine mods don't provide a very good return on investment. $1000 invested into exhaust, ecutune, intake mods, and cams will net probably only 20 HP. A similar amount of money spent on a turbo car like a WRX or an Evo can net over 50 HP. A shift kit, tranny cooler, and tranny filter are worthwile mods. They will give a more sporty ride and increase the lifetime of the auto tranny.

i love the stock look of the car. i have decked my car out with a high end stereo, undercar lights, blue interior lights, but still it looks stock
