O2 sensor question

Hi group.
My car is giving me an O2 code. It is bank2, number 3. How many O2 sensors are on this engine? Is this the one on bank two, but it's telling me I have a problem with the 3rd cylinder on that side?
Thanks in advance...

Chip.

It is a '96.

Re: O2 sensor question

That is the rear o2 sensor, it's in the center pipe behind the cats. OBD2 cars (96 and later) have a rear o2 sensor that monitors the catalyst efficiency. Be glad that it's not a P0420! (Catalyst Efficiency below threshold)

Re: O2 sensor question

Is it the same part as the front 2? I am finding info that conflicts.
some are 4 wire some 3 and some 2. Some fit before and after the
cat, some only after... But I bet somebody here knows.

Re: O2 sensor question

If you car still has the original stock exhaust system, the third O2 sensor is mounted in the main converter itself. It is located on the top of the converter at the rear.

When I replaced the converter on my 96 with a Magnaflow unit, I installed the sensor into the side of the exkaust pipe coming directly out of the converter. makes for easy access whenever it needs to be replaced.

The proper aftermarket sensors are below. These are OE direct plug-in replacements. All are three wire, heated sensors

Bosch 13250
NGK 24614
Denso 234-3083

Available on Amazon.com or from Advance Auto Parts for about $65.00. The NGK can be had for $52.00 direct from their website.

A 3-wire oxygen sensor may also be referred to as a HEGO sensor (Heated Exhaust Gas Oxygen Sensor). It has an internal two wire pre-heater which enables the sensor to more rapidly achieve proper operating temperature.

One wire carries the sensor signal while the other two wires supply voltage to the internal heater. The signal ground is achieved through the sensor body where it threads into the exhaust system.
