OT- Baseball been berry berry good to me

I'm sitting here watching the 30 greatest highlights in baseball history and the All Star game.
I remember Willie Mays from seeing him play at the Polo Grounds.
I don't know how he got that old. I didn't.

Wow !! I just saw Tory Hunter rob a home run from Barry Bonds. What a great catch.

Schilling is mowing 'em down again.

The All Star game is being played about 2 miles from my house. Too bad us common folk can't afford the tickets...

Once upon a time Washington DC had a baseball team (barely) called the Senators. I had the honor of rooting for these perennial losers as a kid. When the DamYankees came to town, & the Senators (nicknamed the Nats), actually won a game, it was like winning the pennant.
I think the bleachers cost fifty cents, which was a fortune after paying a kid on the "mean streets" a quarter to "watch" your car.
A hot dog was a dime, a drink a nickle, beer wasn't allowed; & the fans actually watched the game. Gee - I sure hope those poor players get their raises this year. Unfortunately, the only kids who will be able to afford attending a game will be their own.
Strike two - yer out!

Ron.

Ron,

If they actually do market Ted Williams DNA ( His son should be shot for this), I'm willing to bet that George Steinbrenner will be first in line to buy a batch.

PS: Damn Yankees, now that was a great play.
(Here's where I kill more than 2 birds with one stone)
Don't feel bad about the Senators. At least you're not a Phillies fan.

Hey there, Joe! Wasn't Clint nicknamed "Scrap iron"?

Larry - Don't need no Ted DNA with everybody snortin' steroids.

To Anastasia - If I'd had a cannon to blow you off the stage last night, I'd have used it in a heartbeat. Absolutely a total disgrace!

Today's rant from Ron.

We make an outing to the local Ballpark occasionally to watch the local Farm League team, the "Evansville Otters." Mostly it's Friday Home Games, because they have a fantastic fireworks show afterwards. They're not a bad team and the "ambiance" is pretty cool, considering it's the ballpark from which they filmed most of the game scenes in "A League of Their Own."

Yo Rondo,

I never heard of Anastasia before last night.
She should have learned the words before trying to sing the song.
Also, How could she be a platinum recording star and not have a decent voice (Bob Dylan excepted). ?

Finally, I think that Bud Sellig got a bad batch of steroids. How can you end the All Star game in a tie?

No wonder baseball is losing popularity. Last night was a joke but it also was a travesty.

PS: Frank Howard was a terrific player, so don't rag on all the Wash. Senators.

Well, at least the pitcher was well named. :D

Now that I'm an old fart (can I say that on this site?), I find going to local high school games - football, basketball, and baseball - all more exciting, and played with more passion than any pro team seems able to muster - price independent. My wife, who always thought football was stupid, got quite into the sport during the years our son played offensive line for the local hi-school, now she watches more games than me.

7-7 tie in the All-Star Game......

Babe Ruth must be rolling over in his grave. Ted Williams would not be happy either. No MVP? Baseball will not be America's past time for long. They are talking now about another strike and that there may be some teams that are unable to make payroll.
