April 12th - Tulip Ralley

We had talked about this many months ago, and it has been put on our web site as an official event, but I guess it is time to start getting serious with only a month away. :)

Go to our web site to see the information. Hopefully our resident rally expert Jim will chime in here and help coordinate this a bit. :D

sign up / show up:

What can I add? The link to the MG Car Club site contains full information and the entry form. I plan to be there by 9 ayem at the latest and will try to look conspicuous so you other SVX rallyists can gather round before the start. (...as if an SVX in with a bunch of Brit sports cars wouldn’t be conspicuous!) Look for the Ebony Pearl Mighty Ninety-Four!

Some questions

I would just email you to ask these, but for the benefit of anyone lurking....

Do we have to pre-register, or can we just show up that morning and get entered into the rally?

And if we can...
Can we pay the day of?

When signing up, is there a certain class, etc we are supposed to be under? Looks like they have lots of car clubs, etc, since we are basically on our own, what do we do?

Thanks.
;)

good points!

All the details are on the MGCC website; MacGyver has kindly provided a link from the Northwest SVX site and its use is encouraged, but here's the Readers Digest version:

1) Rallyists can pre-register by mail with check for $10.00 (an entry form is available to print at the MGCC site) or you can register day-of-event for $12.00; just show up.

2) No club affiliation is required. (Car clubs participate for club points but we SVX's are considered privateers and participate in an "open" class.)

The course will wind around the backroads of LaConner and Mt. Vernon. You and your navigator will enjoy spectacular scenery while touring. (This is one of those things which is best enjoyed with someone in the passengers seat.)

This is a gimmick rally where questions take the place of time/distance checkpoints, so everyone is able to compete successfully. No previous rally knowledge or experience is necessary. All you need is a sharp eye and a sense of humor! You might want to pack a picnic lunch or enjoy the salmon barbeque put on by the Mt. Vernon Kiwanis Club at the end point while the scores are being tabulated.

Please remember to bring along some canned food for donation to Northwest Harvest.

Directions: From I-5 take exit 230 and head east on Highway 20. Take a right at stoplight onto South Burlington Blvd. Take a right at next light onto Cascade Mall Drive. Go straight until you see the white MG Car Club tent, where you will check in. All rally information and car number will be issued on the day of the rally.

I plan to be there by 9 ayem at the latest (probably earlier). As always, this event is a great way to have fun in your car with many like-minded car nuts! The car show that results in the Mall parking lot before the start is worth the trip alone!

Thanks for the info! I, for one, am excited about this! :)

...i suppose it might be wishing for too much for the weather on Rallye day to be like it's been his weekend: can't remember the last time i sat around outside in my t-shirt! if it's even close, it'll be a windows-down / sunroof open day.

Alycone 04-05-2003 02:32 PM

I can't go. :( I need to be in Vancouver that weekend.

seasvx 04-06-2003 12:06 PM

...well then, wave on your way by!

Alycone 04-10-2003 03:25 PM

Have fun at the rally, I'm off to Canada.

Alycone 04-17-2003 10:20 PM

Awww, come on -- I want to hear about the rally. :(

WestCoastSVX 04-18-2003 12:52 PM

Jim was the only one bold enough to attempt the rally (ralley? rallye?) :( I couldn't make it and no one else had any interest or could make it either.

I talked to Jim though and he said it was great fun and he was very glad to be in the SVX instead of most of the other cars which were of the classic open air variety on such a rainy day. :)

Alycone 04-19-2003 11:03 PM

Thanks for the synopsis seasvx, strange that it rained, saturday in Vancouver was nice.

 :)

WestCoastSVX 04-21-2003 08:32 AM

She has hidden voices in her head that we can not see. :D

ensteele 04-21-2003 01:28 PM

The voices are coming from the two lips! lol :D
