Transmission replacement question
 

Hi Group.
I purchased a replacement transmission for my Son's '92. The torque converter is not in the transmission. It is out and has a tube attached to it. The removal instructions say not to remove the Torque Converter. Did the Yard ruin this tranny by pulling the Torque Converter out? Or is it OK?
What is this tube for? It is loosely attached to the converter and has notches in the other end.

That tube is supposed to be there, and it is supposed to be loosely attached to the TC. I would also recommend replacing the oil seal that is at the hole on the bell housing the the TC/tube goes into.

When you put the TC and tube into place it is important to seat it properly.
- Carefully slide the TC and tube into place, being careful not to scratch the new seal.
- Put a screwdriver in one of the bolt holes that the flexplate attaches to and use it as a handle to "crank" the TC clockwise a few turns.
- Push in while lifting up slightly.
- Crank the TC a few more turns CW
- Push in while lifting up and slowly turning CCW.
- Do this a few time until you are sure that it is fully seated.
