Anyone know anything about classic BMW's?

Someone offered me their 1982 BMW 733i manual with 210k miles in exchange for painting their house. Anyone know how bullet proof these old Beemers are? The car has been garaged during the winter and is in fantastic shape. Any advice?

I used to be quite involved with BMWs of that era. Of course even bulletproof cars with 210k on them and 25 years old have to be approached with open eyes - but yes, those were great cars. Beautiful, classic, distinctive BMW style that is lacking in the current models (to me). Still had a very european feel to them. Powerful, luxury and great handling for a relatively large car. I'd love to have one of them now and I'd jump on it, but that's just me.

This reminds me of the "blond" joke about painting the Porsche.

So how big's the house?

Well, I own a exterior painting/ roofing company. I wouldn't put a crew on this house I would do it myself. It is only a small cape that would take me by myself maybe 4 days to do.

P.S. what is that keypad on the dash for? Only the guys wife was home at the time and she didn't know.

So if your hourly rate is 50 bucks, doing the maff, you got a cherry Bimmer for $2,400. It's a no brainer. Do it. He buys the paint, of course.

Classic bmmer and 82 733i BHHAAAAAA HHAAAAAAAAAHEEEEEEEEEEEEE HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWWW!.

I thought you were talking about a real classic. Treat her like you would any other used car that is 25 years old. Bmmers are at their best in that era as small sedans like the 320i. You'll have issues with reasonable priced parts on a 733i which of course with any 25 year old car with 200k you'll be buying quite a few of.:D

sicksubie 03-28-2007 09:50 PM

yeah, I know about the parts.... I am trying to locate places that carry them. I may try to work out a dela with the guy. The house is about a 2,800-3,200.- house if this was a regular customer. The 733i is worth about 1700.- with that many miles. I may ask for a grand and the car (i buy the paint).

Yeah I know - the 3 series were the driver's favorites but I always liked the big Bimmers. When the favorite was the 2002 I was driving a Bavaria

So do I but it'd be even more so like throwing you're money into the toilet only with a 7 series it'll be both fists.;) :D

I thought this would be about the old school BMWs, like the 2002. If anyone's looking for one, there is a semi-stripped one halfway up Haleakala (10k foot tall 200-year dormant volcano) in Hawaii.

It is a good idea. I mean shoot show me the house. The parts can be expensive and upkeep can suck. It is worth it though. My friend has a 3 series of that era with 330,xxx and it runs great. We have had many cars and this is a good car.
