Head bolt nuts

Probably asked a million times, but I finally got a friend to bring a 250 ft lbs impact for my cam gears, that wouldn't break it lose. Called yet ANOTHER friend with 500 lbs one, got it of and pull the cams out, thinking I was about to finally pull one of the heads off but I can't get the head bolts off. Looks to be more than a 12 point bolt, we didn't have a impact socket that would fit but we gently tried to use a normal socket and that wouldn't break it lose. What should I be using to remove these last few bolts?

Head bolt nuts eh??:confused::confused::lol:

The bolts have 14mm 12pt heads on them. The block bolts are 12mm 12 heads-/

I haven't pulled them off yet so I'm not sure what they are but I was assuming the actual bolts are in the block and the head drops on to them. Guess I just need a breaker bar.

Yes, you should not be trying to use an impaqct gun to remove those bolts

I wouldn't for putting them back on but I was told taking them off shouldn't be a big deal since the bolts needs to be replaced anyway. Anything else I should know?

You need to loosen them in sequence too.

normally you can reuse the headbolts, but i imagine your making a mess of them by not using the correct tools. like tom stated, you need to pull them out in order also.

I never use an impact or even an air ratchet on cam cap, bearing cap, or head bolts. I guess I'm afraid that they might seize and tear stuff up. Just my personal policy, I treat them like spark plugs.

I don't have access to any of those air tools anyway, I just borrowed one because I've been stuck on the came gear for the better part of 2 months now off and on and nothing I've tried would get it off. Thats the only thing it was successfully used on.

yeah, thats fine to use it on the cam gears. keep the timing belt on and use it to loosen the bolts that way they (pulleys) keep from rotating. just dont use it to put them on.

Unfortunately I bought my car with a broken timing belt, that would have helped a lot though.
