where's the best place to run wire?
i'm about to finish my subwoofer and i need to wire it to the battery. where is the best place to run 4awg wire from the battery to the trunk? forgive me if this was asked and solved elsewhere, but i couldn't find it. :o

Re: where's the best place to run wire?
I ran mine through an existing grommet in the firewall, down underneath the carpet along the driver side seat, along the side all the way back to the trunk.

Re: where's the best place to run wire?
did you have to drill any holes? could you post a picture (if you have one), and did you have to remove anything from the engine bay to access it?

Re: where's the best place to run wire?
I was able to get it through the firewall fairly easily. I dont remember if i used a coat hanger or what...I definitely did not drill any holes. No pics of that, sorry. The grommet is behind the driver side valve cover (give or take) and will drop the wire right behind the ECU, if I remember correctly. These are the types of tasks that allow you to be creative and developed problem solving skills, so the best advice i can honestly give you is to figure it out. If you are stille having trouble later i can take a pic when i fet home, but see if you can make it work first :)

Re: where's the best place to run wire?
I don't know what grommet Cam used, I used the one the steering rack goes through.
I punched a hole with a screwdriver, fed the wire through. Where I ran my wire: Under hood view: http://i923.photobucket.com/albums/a...eo/Powerin.jpg Under dash view: http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4066/...7f013df7_b.jpg Pics are from my stereo thread: http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=54516 Maybe you find some other useful pics in it? |
Re: where's the best place to run wire?
i was looking at that thread earlier today! i was contemplating on using that robber grommet on the steering shaft, but i was hesitant to poke a hole in it. how big was your screw driver? is there anything i could possibly do by poking a hole in there? i don't want to damage something. i have everything hooked up as of now, minus the wire from the battery to the amp.

Re: where's the best place to run wire?
I don't know if there is anything in there to damage, it looked like a rubber grommet to us so we used it.
We just used a a long philips head screwdriver that was just about the same size as my wire. |
Re: where's the best place to run wire?
sounds good. i'll try that tomorrow. you didn't remove anything from the engine to reach it right? i think i can maneuver my hand in there. did you poke it from the inside or from the engine?
sorry for all the questions :p |
Re: where's the best place to run wire?
My friend poked from under to the hood. No we didn't remove anything to do it.
I was under the dash, and I could see the screwdriver pushing on the rubber, so I told him how to aim so the hole came out on the side so it was somewhat strait. Then he fed the wire while I pushed on the rubber from the inside to get it to the hole and pulled it through. Maybe there is an easier grommet, maybe cam will have a pic. |
Re: where's the best place to run wire?
well this one seems fairly easy. i think i can do this. :o

Re: where's the best place to run wire?
Sorry guys my car left me stranded at the workplace today...I am getting tired of that, let me tell you... Haha.
Anyways, I didn't take a picture. It was kinda the last thing on my mind, sorry. I will take a pic tomorrow during work if i get a chance, but the spot lookin4svx showed you is perfect. Good luck, I hope the system sounds good. |
