Tire Suggestions?

Hello Gang,

I would like to get new tires this weekend, but can’t remember which ones that you all suggested. If I recall, about 80% of you all said that there was one go-to tire. I do plan to go up to the passes quite a bit, so would like something that will do well in the snow. After I get these (and get my back wheels on the right sides!!) I will be taking photos to post in my locker. I would appreciate any feedback or suggestions that you might have on the perfect tire for the SVX.

Thank you much!!

Several of us have gotten continental extremes, I like mine. :)

Discount Tire has them at the best price. Check with Manofmayo for the area near you. :)

i haven't put enough miles on mine to have it re-shod yet. john's old website http://www.subarusvx.com/ had this bit of wisdom / opinion:

1st Place:
Yokohama AVS dB

do an svx network search for "tires" and you'll get lots more wisdom / opinion / experience.

Hey....I went to Discount Tire on Evergreen Way north of Casino.

Including tax, installation and warrantee it was 540.85. I think I paid about $104 a tire. Had to wait 3 days since they don't have them in stock.

Oh btw, I choose Conti Extremes, like Aly, Earl & others

Thanks for the tips-

Thanks Guys,

Discount Tire in Everett is all of three minutes from my house. It turns out that I still have some tread on teh Bridgestones, but I will be getting new tires soon. I did have them put my back wheels on right so I could do a little photo shoot. I should have photos in my locker tonight. Thanks again!! :)

If you can afford it get a cheap set of winter tires. Run 2 sets of tires.

tires eh?

I tried the Yokohama AVS's and they were very functional. Also extremely noisy. I am now running on Bridge Stone Potenza RE950's and I'm loving them. The tread pattern doesn't look as cool and you can tell that the Potenza's aren't as sticky, but I'll get more miles out of these for sure. The Yoko's wore VERY quickly. I've heard good things about the contiextremes also.

Aaah, decisions decisions. :D

Good luck either way,

Elliot

Check out this link, a few members are doing research about tires right now.

I suggest using tirerack for research at least. You can pull up a tire and read what other people have thought about them. Now you didn't mention if you were planning on running two sets of tires one for winter one for summer or just one full time. If you're going to go one full time, then around here an all season will be your best bet. I like the cont extreme's as an all season, but as with most all season's they feel a little soft on a turn in and aren't nearly as responsive as a summer tire, but if you're going to be in the snow, then summer tires are out.

So what tire did you end up with?

Ganodda 12-15-2004 02:39 PM

I ended up just reversing the rear wheels and have held off on getting tires for the time. There is still a few miles left on them.

I Love my Nokians. They are a good Finish tire used alot with Volvo's etc...

They came with 9mm Tread depth and they stick like glue. They are an all season but with a Winter Tire Stamp as they are known for their winter tires. I was surprised as their was very little side wall flex. They are a little noisy when I first get on the highway but once they warm up the noise goes away.

They are good for 60,000miles Warranty. Of course this is my winter car that is why I went more towards the winter tire. They are suppose to be great in the Summer as well.

Check out a pic of them in my Locker:

LA to North Van > Meat

Good tires are always nice.

PS- I have my wheels on the right way now.
