125mph

I ran out of road.

Heheh. 80mph in a 25 zone.

WEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

NomadTW 06-17-2003 10:17 PM

man goin 80 in a 25 is sooo cool rob

i hope my kids are as cool as you when they grow up

and why does your car accelerate so slowly?

Chicane 06-17-2003 10:19 PM

??? I think it's pretty fast on the highway.

- Rob

NomadTW 06-17-2003 10:35 PM

i'm just wondering why your car accelerates so slow at high speed

maybe it saw the 25mph zone ahead

Chicane 06-17-2003 10:44 PM

Well, it was CRUISING at 90mph.... so it wasn't accelerating..... and then at a steady 90mph, I hit it.

If I had been going from 50 it'd have been accelerating faster.

haven't you posted about your street races? Hypocracy what a wonderful thing :p

Bwana 06-18-2003 12:11 AM

Wow, why all the tension here? There have been top-speed threads in the past with no harsh words. The only difference is that someone has a video of them doing these high speeds.

I dont see why it gets so heated when a "controversial" member posts his addition to the top-speed discussions. I've seen Lwin say that he's been over 130, I personally have hit 140, many other members have been atleast 125mph, so why does it only bother you when Rob posts it?

Honestly guys, let's cool it down a little, and if you want to say something bad or nasty, just dont post it. Trust me, no one will ever know you wanted to post it!

(disclaimer: I am not agreeing or dis-agreeing with either side, and i have no personal problems with any members of this fine community. Just trying to play the mediator (sp?) and stop a train wreck from starting.)

Mr. Pockets 06-18-2003 09:03 AM

Any time I've taken my SVX over 100, the speed limit feels so slow afterwards. I used to take really early-morning trips across VT. I'd make most of the trip way over 100mph. After a couple hours at 110+, 80 (still 10mph over) feels like a crawl.

Rob, I have two problems with your video:

1. You seem to be the one holding the camera. You're obviously not on the freeway - going that fast on normal, two-way streets is a risk not worth taking, in my opinion. Adding in the distration of holding a video camera is really dangerous.

2. You need a better mic - I know the SVX is quiet, even at 100+, but I want to hear that engine better. :D

Mr. Pockets 06-18-2003 09:05 AM

I'll agree with Scott. This is hardly the first time somebody here has posted about going too fast in an SVX. For crying out loud, I've been over 130 with mine.

Mind you, I didn't do it in a 25mph zone. :D

Anyway, if you're going to go too fast in your car, please do it in a place where you're reasonably certain that you aren't risking anybody else.

The only thing that got me a little was that he did this speed run in a 25 mph zone. That is not the best place to do the high speed thing. Almost anything could happen in a 25 mph zone. I know how this came across to me, and I think that was the point of the past posts.

I can't even come up with a response that I would use when I got pulled over in a 25 mph zone doing 90+. I think I would just get out of the car and wait for him/her to open their door for me. :(

NomadTW 06-18-2003 10:38 AM

i have no problem w/ the high speed run my problem IS with the 25mph zone

i've had the car up to 130 on the HIGHWAY, and yes i have street raced, but again not in a residential area w/ 25mph speed limits

and my other problem is his bragging abotu goin 80 in the 25 in the thread, that's not cool

especially at night i dont' do my runs at night either, not enough visibility for oncoming animals/people if a deer is coming out of the woods just out of your HL beams to the side and you're goin 125 there's no way you could even get slow enough to not total the car from the deer

the fact that rob was still goin 80 in the 25 and didn't slow down fast enough for that is proof.

svx_commuter 06-18-2003 10:59 AM

Doing this in 25mph zone is not a good thing.

Posting that you did this, admitting to it with a video on a public web site >>> Priceless <<<<

When the trooper shows up at your home. See ya.

Bwana 06-18-2003 11:12 AM

I dont think the whole run was done in a 25 zone. It just turned into a 25, and the SVX brakes werent good enough to take him down that fast.

Once again, not supporting either side.

Tim 06-18-2003 11:22 AM

My friend got pulled over for 101 in a 45. Eek!

My point !!!! Expect the unexpected! :( What if it had been something other than a 25 mph sign?

Chicane 06-18-2003 01:07 PM

A few things: I know this road extremely well. There is almost never anybody on it, nor are there any driveways or cross roads. So basically, its one big long straight piece of asphalt. THe speed limit is 55mph. Near the end of the video, it enters the outskirts of a town, in an industrial park. The industrial park is ONE business, and then there is even more land before you come near a house. Also, I've travelled this road well over 100 times, and not seen ONE animal. Ever. I've also been over 100 on this road ..eh... more than 50 times. It's perfect for high speed, except for the rather sharp turn near the end. And I'd rather do a speed run at night, that way you can see an oncoming car from REAAALLLY far away.

- Rob

Chicane 06-18-2003 02:10 PM

Anyway.... does this seem slow to anyone? Or is that normal SVX acceleration... from a steady 90mph.

Thanks

- Rob

DavieGravy 06-18-2003 02:52 PM

Mine accelerates really slowly past about 105 or so. I think you're OK.

immortal_suby 06-18-2003 04:42 PM

It seemed kind of slow to me, but you had the AC on ;)

i think the compressor shuts off at WOT.

Chicane 06-18-2003 05:45 PM

I don't think the AC was on. That was in December I think.

NomadTW 06-18-2003 06:10 PM

i concur my svx is a lot faster from 100-125, i'dve been to 135 in the time it took rob to get to 125....

how clean was your air filter?
do you have a power robbing exhaust?
power robbing WAI?

were your wheel bearings bad? they will put a lot of drag on the car if they are

Chicane 06-18-2003 06:13 PM

Air filter should be pretty clean. Exhaust is stock, but it has a leak in it near the middle somewhere.... and I don't know what a WAI is. And no, my bearings are fine.

- Rob

PS: I do have 148k. >shrug<

Pure_Insanity8 06-18-2003 07:12 PM

I don't know... it seemed to normal acceleration to me. I think it may have even seemed faster over 110 than mine did when it was in better shape with only 65,000 miles on it. However, it is hard to tell, since your perception when actually doing it seems to change. I felt like it took ages to get from 120 to 125 when I've done it... probably due to those couple cars that I couldn't see seconds ago, were getting closer REALLY fast!:D So Rob, was the tranny "acting fast" at that time?:) You've never been beaten by a Z24 at those kind of speeds, have you?:p

Chicane 06-18-2003 07:26 PM

No, I think I'd destroy a Z24 at those speeds. :D

Subafreak 06-18-2003 07:36 PM

Water to Air intercooler? WAI

Speed limits seem to be for bad handling cars. I'v found that I can comfortable cruise at with in 10Mph of double the posted speed limit. The road I drive to work every day is a nice twisty, wide, uncrowded road that I'v never seen a speed trap on in 5years. The speed limit is mostly 45mph but I cruise it at 80mph normal speed, at that speed I have had to slow down or manuver for many an animal or moron sitting in the middle of the road around the blind corners, and can do it non-dramatically. If I'm feeling really fiesty I up it to 90-100mph but only on the long corners, and I always drive as if someone or something could be sitting around the next corner, and so far it has been working for me for the past 10years. Unfortunatlly the police don't agree with my speed limit veiws.

NomadTW 06-18-2003 10:18 PM

warm air intake

cone filter in the engine bay

twinviper 06-19-2003 12:41 AM

yeah, I know what you mean. The police don't seem to agree with my speed limit view, either. Thank god there weren't any around the only time I did 140 in a 55.

Hey, when you live in the rural part of West Virginia, it takes about 30 minutes to get to the highway. Who wants to do that? Just learn to handle it on the curvy mountain roads. Needless to say my tires don't last.

Subafreak 06-20-2003 08:28 PM

Oh, I like to call them HAC,s Hot air charge.

SVXRide 06-21-2003 12:02 AM

Seemed kinda slow to me:p
I agree with all the previous posts about making sure you've got plenty of road and you know it well. It is amazing how fast things happen at 125+ (this includes coming up on cars going 65, deers crossing the road, etc.) I've found that the SVX wants to go airborne over 120 if the road has serious changes in inclination (i.e., hills) and I'm not partial to replacing my entire exhaust system (note: do not touch the brakes when this happens, just back off of the gas:eek: )

i checked your locker and you don't have a rear spoiler - i wonder if that's why you catch air over 120? maybe a giant biplane rice wing in the back would keep your SVX's ass planted better. :D seriously, maybe it does make a difference on these cars.

NomadTW 06-21-2003 09:45 AM

the svx spoiler is actually functional especially at higher speeds in excess of 60mph if you look at the wing it is actually an airfoil it will keep the ass of the car planted

ha ha! wingless SVX's have a loose ass! :D

SVXRide 06-21-2003 08:24 PM

Maybe I should buy the "adjustable wing" from our friend "hooked up" on EBay and then the custom mirrors from "jordan4everus" . "Get hooked up":D :D :p
