Fixed my hesitation problem
 

Like most people, my 92 had really nasty hesitation problems. More recently, it started bucking occasionally too.

I sucked half a can of seafoam into the intake, and it's CURED. Car runs like it's brand new.

I know this isn't a question, but I just thought I'd share :)

Yeah I have been extremely tempted to do this too, the only thing thats kept me back is hearing how it clears deposits from the engine, actually lowering compression and sometimes making it run rougher.

Mine doesnt run rough or hesitate, except when the engine is very cold, but it has a low idle and poor idle return, id like to hear how its worked for others here too with a mileage near what mine is (148,000).

Im glad it worked good for you.... which intake port did you use?

I'd be interested in learning a little more about the procedure. How do you do a Sea Foam treatment on a SVX?

I hear you divide one or two cans into thirds, use 1/3 in your gas so it runs through your injectors..... another 1/3 goes directly into your oil.... you dont drive with it in so this is strictly while it sits and idles, revving here and there. The final 1/3 you pour into your intake somewhere after the MAF, usually through a vacuum port.... a lot of people use the brake booster line but the SVX has numerous other options for this.....

You let all 3 go thru the engine while you have it running in park...... keeping enough throttle so the engine doesnt stall. Its going to smoke like hell too. After you have run the car long enough and the exhaust clears up for the most part, shut it off and change the oil. Then drive and see what it has done for the effort!

This is pretty much the normal way I have read, im sure someone can refine my take on it as there are others much more experienced using this stuff. if you do it let me know how it goes.

I only put it into the intake. I don't like putting it in the oil, I've heard problems about it washing the cylinder walls, especially on flat motors.

I used the two ports on top of the throttle body, mainly because they only draw when the throttle is open, because they are a very small diameter so there's no risk of hydrolocking the motor, and because you can be sure you get it in every cylinder that way.

I put a tube onto the nipple, the other end in the can, sucked up 1/4 of the can at 3,000rpm (it stumbles BADLY when you do this, don't be alarmed), then the other nipple, shut off the car for 5 minutes, then fired it back up. Let it idle until the smoke clears (5 minutes or so), rev it up a bit, you get more smoke, wait for that to clear, then I took it for a drive on level roads, at low RPM, until the smoke was gone completely.

I wonder about also using some a bit further up the intake tube so it can get the front part of the throttle body as well.

My vacuum diagram is a bit incomplete, the large vacuum hose that connects to the TOP of the throttle body (right where it bolts to the manifold), is that the air supply to the IAC valve? Maybe a little Seafoam in there could help free a sticky valve.

Unfortunately the car won't run with that hose open to free air

It doesnt need to be running, pour it in the top, reconnect the hose, and maybe let it sit for a minute before starting.

Worth a shot I suppose, I don't think I'd risk it tho. I'd just pull off the valve and clean it

I don't think that's a good idea, it won't be very evenly distributed because the booster comes off one of the runners, instead of the plenum

Ever wondew why guys a while back knew more about their cars??

Its not electronics that changed everything, it was the simple fact that they took their engines apart to clean them out. If you would clean the top end of your engines, you wouldn't have to run snake oil through it and probably do more damage than good... $.02 deposit

It's not snake oil. My old turbo legacy was hanging an exhaust valve open and blowing flames out the exhaust under boost, seafoam cured it.

We don't all have time to strip our motors down and clean them, when a $10 bottle of cleaner has basically the same effect.
