Honk Honk
Finally after much delay I've installed some air-horns.
I gotta tell ya, its a wonderful thing. I got to USE them the very next day. The lady nearly jumped outta her car. When are people gonna LEARN to STAY in their lane in a rotory? Anyway, just wanted to let you know. The horns where from JC Whitney at about 23 bucks. It took all of 30 minutes to install them. I had to make a little bracket for the compressor, and make my own wires because it didn't come with those. No need for the included relay though because the existing horn wiring is set up for 20A. Piece-o-cake. There is NO delay and the sound is music to my ears...no more little eeehhheeehhhh. Just doesn't cut it on the four lane highway at 80. I've just had it with people not seeing my 'little' low black car with the HEADLIGHTS on. |
Did your horns wear out, Jeff? I've always thought mine were adequate.
But then, my Toyota pickup (and before that, Ford Escort) had a little 'excuse me' horn. |
Can you post a part number and some pics?
Thanks, Matt |
The very first thing I do when I get a new SVX is to swap the horns. I hate the tiny horns that came with the SVX.

Here's the link to the horns
The stock horns just didn't cut through heavy traffic when an 18wheeler was going to drive 'over' me. Scared the daylights out of me when I realized that he simply couldn't hear my horns.
These http://www.jcwhitney.com/product.jht...D=4550&BQ=jcw2 horns are not hugely loud and they easily fit under our hood with little fuss. I'll take a picture this weekend and upload it. There are plenty of other ones available at that site. Keep in mind you will need some wire and female blade connectors as they are not provided. Also, there is no air filter on the inlet (strange) just a hole. For now I have a piece of foam wedged between the hole and one of the horns. I mounted the horns directly to the radiator fan housing the included bolts (had to shorten them a bit so they didn't protrude into the fan area) The compressor is mounted to that bolt just to right of the ..aaa.. brake compressor (?). I'll get a picture for ya, and some better install instructions this weekend. Really a simple install using the existing harness. I know that dwayne has the same set up in his beatiful Pearly. |
i was acutally thinking about doing about the same thing....my b/f can get ahold of the horns they use on fire engines and police cars...maybe i can get him to put one in my car!! muuuuhahahahah....now is it legal is the problem :(

www.galls.com Lots of police/fire equipment. They have sirens, light bars, computer brackets, etc for their vehicles in there. Right up your alley! :D |
Or the "whoop whoop" siren they use on subs before they submerege???
Perhaps that electronic blo-woff valve noise maker.....with rego plates "GIGARO1" :D |

Here's the 5 million dollar question" Does the airhorn work with the alarm? Like, is the 'beep beep' louder?
