uneven idle
 

Hi folks, when my car is idling, it seems to hunt (about 50 rpm variance)

will hunt every half second sounds a bit like ruh ruh ruh ruh ruh. Like someone is rhythmically tapping the throttle, very subdued.

Sound like a small vacuum leak? Or leaning towards maf.


Whadda you think?

Gas milage also sucks. No code, lots of power, don't know if that is related.

clean out the throttle body first
and the egr valve too.
Youre right, could be a vaccum leak. So many areas
it can happen too.
Mass air flow sensor could be dirty, maybe clean the wire
off with some cleaner.

maybe , weak alternator ?

Sometimes when it's cold my car "hunts" for the idle.. Start it up, revs to 1500, drops to 500, revs to 1300, drops to 600, etc.. until it stabilizes at ~1200 or so.. Used to do it every time I started it now it only does it if it's REAL cold, so I'm guessing it's just a learning thing.

Patrick, clean out your throttle body, and the idle air passage, could just be your idle control valve is sticky. Dunno if that'd cause the bad mileage though, just a thought.

Mine did the same until I replace the passenger's side O2 sensor...
