How to tell if you're converted?
 

How can I tell if my car is using R-12 or converted to R-134a? Isnt there supposed to be a sticker somewhere on the radiator support if it was converted?

IT's not too hot yet but my A/C is no longer getting cold so it looks like I have to get it recharged. Do you guys usually recharge it yourselves or take it somewhere?

You don't have any engine pics in your locker so I can't tell you. But if yours has been converted, you can tell that there're different adaptors(retrofit kit) at your compressor and the dryer; they usually look bigger than the R12 adaptors and come with Red and Blue. There's a chance that your car has been converted but the sticker was not put on.

To really identify, has it been converted? You can see from the adaptors.(that's my own method) If your car has not been converted to R134a yet, it's advised to take it to the shop and they have the equipment to do it properly for you...

I'm sure someone can explain better to you later...I only converted my yellow svx once. :)

The red dryer/reciever cap does not have the r-134a style adaptor say I would surmize that your still using r-12

The high adaptor isn't really isn't descriptive enough. You want to look at the low side on the driver's side. Take a picture of the line on the driver's side of the motor and post it

It looks like yes, still R12....(take a closer shot on those adaptors)............ take another shot of your AC compressor with the line. That'd be more sure.

If you cannot find your high and low adaptors are on top of the retrofit kits, then you are still R12. :)

Assume it's R134 unless you can find absolutely no evidence of it. (fittings, sticker, dryer, o-rings etc...)

I would say it's still R12.

yeah, it is stil r12. Conversion kits are easily installed and filled.

That black cap is covering an R12 connector (looks like a tire valve). The R134 connectors are larger "quick connect" style.
