Block heater?
I'm trying to find a block heater but am unable to do so? is there one?

Any subaru block heater will fit in the SVX i would assume (the ones from the legacy and other models of the same vintage as the svx). It just goes in place of one of the plugs on the block on the EJ engines and i would bet money it is the same on an SVX

I've seen 2 in my day on svxi... Never had the cord on em tho

Block heaters were a factory option. My car has an original Subaru SVX block heater. I haven't noticed anything weird about any plugs.
Any respectable winterizing shop should be able to whip one up and install it in no time. |
I have one from the factory (well YT has that block now actually) but it was not connected.

Bobby, the motor you have has the block heater... It was one I got from a roll over

I have a block heater (factory I assume) right now the chord is coiled in front of the battery. Hasn't gotten cold enough yet for it to be an issue.

JCWhitney use to sell some universal fit ones a while back. Maybe check their site out. I remember seeing one that went down the dipstick tube and another that was magnetic and attached to the side of the oil pan. Our oil pans don't have much for sides so never mind on that one.

They sold one at Napa in Wyoming for $50 that connected inline with one of the heater hoses, and it had a pump in it to circulate the coolant, I never got one though.
Block heaters and battery warmers are available from Subaru, they are not that expensive (IIRC, ~$50 for the block heater and ~$30 for the battery warmer) and even if you don't live where it gets uber cold and you actually NEED it, the car will start easier + warm up faster when it's cold. My truck's diesel, and it has a block heater in it standard (Says it's recommended below 40 degrees and required below 0, but I've started it below 0 without it) and all I did was I went to Wally World and bought an outdoor timer that would handle 1800W, and set it to kick the block heater in about 3 hours before I got up to go to school, worked great! |
