Re: Ac belt replacement?
This is the belt that goes on the Ac compressor, not the alternator belt. But, Thanks for the reply

Re: Ac belt replacement?
Loosen the nut and use a long screw driver or long breaker bar to get some leverage on it and once it is as tight as you want, secure it. :)

Re: Ac belt replacement?
At the proper tension, you should be able to twist the belt 90 degrees but not much further than that. Don't overtighten the belt or it will break (been there, done that, $18 OEM belt!)

Earl's instructions are exactly the ones that will work. |
Re: Ac belt replacement?
So it turns out the reason the original belt broke was because the bearings on the tension pulley were shot!!! So now, I need to replace that bearing, any clues for were to get it,does any one have a diagram?
Thanks for the other replies guys! |
Re: Ac belt replacement?
You can order the bearing (Most likely will come with the pulley as well) from the dealer, or you can take the idler unit off, remove the pulley, knock the bearing out, and go to an industrial supply store and they should be able to order you a bearing.

Re: Ac belt replacement?
I use a 17mm box wrench (unlike the combination wrench shown below), after the two 12mm lock bolts are loosened.

Re: Ac belt replacement?
Thank you so much for the great picture and for all the help. I was able to get the bearing out and got a replacement from Napa auto parts for $25 - great deal compared to local Subaru dealer $125
AC is now working again :) |
