Wow, an astronamer? Thats a new one!

So, at work yesterday we get a tech on-site from some Sun support agency, here to repair our toasted Sun server, and I was given the task of babysitting him. Anyway, so we both hop into our cars, and he follows me down to the shop where the server is located. When we get there, the conversation goes like this:

Him: "So, you must be into astronamy, huh?"
Me: "Not really, why do you ask?"
Him:"Well your plate, it says ALCYONE."
...At this point, my jaw drops and I almost trip over myself.
Me: "You know what that means? Nobody knows what that means!"
Him: "Yeah, I know what it is. But why do you have it?"
Me: "Well, it's kinda the Japanese name of the car."
Him: "Huh, thats kinda clever, actually, considering what Subaru means."
Me: "Dude, your cool in my book."

I just thought I'd share the tale, considering this is not only the first person that didn't think my plate meant that I was a raging alcoholic, but actually had a clue what it meant.:)

This spawned my curiosity to learn more about the subject and out of the numerous links that come up in search engines, this one has some really good information:

And, since I can be such a nerd sometimes, I searched and centered on the object using software called Celestia:

I now like Celestia even more after finding Alcyone with it.

Alcyone was the first star I 'hunted down' after I got my telescope...
