Brake Job

I am getting ready to change the discs--my general Subaru tech book talks about getting a special tool to turn the pistons in but the SVX picture looks like the pistons compress normally for the change--any hints or experience out there?

I can use my thumbs to compress most pistons back in. If not, I use a rubber padded bar clamp to squeze them back in.

I just changed my front pads and rotors last weekend and I had no problem compressing the pistons by hand. Just make sure to take the master cylinder cap off and monitor the fluid level so you don't end up with a big mess.

Use a C-clamp. They're just normal calipers (which are also found on the Nissan pathfinder).

Turning the pistons in is only required on calipers that have parking brake mechanisms built into them - something the SVX does not have.
