Security remote questions
 

What exactly do the stock remotes do? Lock/unlock the doors and set off the horn if someone breaks in right? If I install an aftermarket one with a bunch of nifty buttons for opening the windows etc, would I have to disable the stock system?

I can only answer your first question.
The stock remote has one button that locks/sets the alarm and unlocks/deactivates the alarm.

Some (all?) of the SVX remotes have 2 buttons, just not indicated. Both have the same function. I verified this on my dad's SVX.

If you put in an after market system, you need to disable the stock system or you will have some problems. :o

I bought one off a website and it only works from like 2 feet away from the car.. oh well, back in Kuwait now waiting to go back to Iraq. I'll bother with it when I get home for good.

Maybe the batteries are weak. :o

My 94 has an origional remote and it works only when i'm like on top of the car. My 92 has a KeylessRide remote and it also works only when i'm almost inside of the car. Extended range would be nice, but i can live iwth it as is.
