Brake Pads
To to replace the front brakepads with 10% in the front and 40% in back. My next autocross should finish it off.
Now the question is, what kind of brakepads are you guys using? Thoughts on oem(best?) and others would be great. Whats the compositon of the oem pads? semi-metallic, regular? I've also had quotes ranging from a 2 regular shops for 175 for doing front brakes to a quote of 220 for front and back at the neighborhood (hole in the wall) shop. |
this is the info i had from about 2 months ago
pad -- 25 pair -- dealer / 1 year pad -- 20 pair -- autozone / lifetime pad -- 22 pair -- bluestar / 1 year rotor -- 150 each -- dealer / 1 year rotor -- 75 each -- autozone / lifetime rotor -- 55 each -- bluestar / 1 year my numbers. Lwin |

Subaru Parts Brake parts List
What does the the Disc Brake kit come with? More specifically, exactly what parts should I buy if I were to take it to a mechanic or do it myself? (change front disc brakes |
The factory disc brake kit comes with the pads and all necessary shims to do the brakes. It also comes with grease to lube the notches where the pads slide along the calipers. It's an easy job to change pads and to take off the rotors and have them turned. Some will recommend not turning your rotors because they feel that with less thickness to the rotor, it will warp easier. I had mine turned about two thousand miles ago when I replaced my pads and haven't had any problems since but I'm also pretty easy on my car.

Just to clarify. The parts I described in my last post are the ones included in a disc brake pads kit not the disk brake kit. It appears that the disc brake kit includes new or rebuilt calipers as well. Depending on how many miles are on your car and what kind of shape the existing calipers are in, you may want to get new calipers as well although mine were in good shape and I just replaced the pads.

AH! Iwas wondering why the disc brake kit were so expensive! Thanks!

Toyota Dyna pads
I met an SVX owner here a while back who told me that the brake pads for the Toyota Dyna light van are the same as those as on the SVX...and considerably cheaper than OEM.
I am not sure whether the Dyna was marketed in the US or Britain but thought I would throw this in. Regards Jamsvx |
