Subaru Warranty Question.

I found out today, through the use of the "Star System" that the previous owner of my car had extended the car's factory warranty to the "Subaru Gold" plan. This provides a 7 year, 100,000 mile warranty. The warranty expired 10/26/01. I had TONS of work done to my car before this date, and I had not yet reached 100,000 miles at that point. Shouldnt the Subaru Dealer have seen that my car was under warranty? Shouldnt the Subaru Dealer have TOLD me of this when i bought the car? I feel kind of ripped off in that I spent thousands, and i mean THOUSANDS on repairs during the warranty period, and most were at a Subaru Dealer.

Is there anything I can do?

Mike

If you have the papers to prove it you can definitely take it up with subaru :)

I reread your original post. I have the Subaru "classic" plan on my 96. The paperwork I received was what I was to show the Subaru dealer at the time I needed service. It should not be hard, if the warranty was transferred, to document dates, mileages, and covered parts between the servicing dealers and the warranty division of Subaru.

I would have thought the selling dealer would have told you about the extended warranty as a selling point. The subaru warranty was valid to the original owner. It is not automatically transferred but can be for a nominal fee. He should have made you aware of that.

Since you stumbled on this using the Star system I assume you don't have an "official" document in your hand from Subaru showing transferring of coverage to you, dates of the remaining warranty, deductible, etc.

Look at your receipts and deduct the $50.00 deductible or so you would have to pay anyway. The coverage should also cover rental transportation if your car was in the shop for an extended stay (not sure what that is on the Gold plan)

Its definitely worth a try to pursue it

Mike,

I have a Subaru Gold Warrantee on my '97 SVX. I beieve but am not sure that it must be formally transfered to the second owner. Let me look at the paper work (fine print). I can bring a copy of it to Reading. Let's get your ducks all in a row before you approach the dealer.
