Really Expensive Brake Pads

http://www.endless-brake.info

Last week, while doing some research on brake pads, I contacted a company called "Endless". A few people on usenet described them as the best Japanese brakes available. I figured that since they were Japanese they would probably have something to fit the SVX, so I emailed their european distributor (in Sweden). I got a response from them today.

The pads are in our stock range and the front has EP155 and rear EP223 as shape part no. Depending on which compound you need we have different options but the best one for street use is the CC-X compound. The price is 424 £ for both front and rear together. Prices exclusive VAT and freight cost. If you runs a company we don't charge VAT if we can get your VAT reg no. The CC-X compound is very high heat resistant and can stand several decelerations from high to low speed.in a row and you can even do race track driving with them. Please advise us what kind of driving style you have and what kind of performance you need from the pads and if CC-X is too expensive or not the preferenses you want we can offer you cheaper compounds but still good performance.

OUCH!!

my ebc pads have now done dozens of 100+ stops with no fade, and all for £34.00 delivered. Seems like no contest. The British seem to be poor at mass producted production-line cars, but are still streets ahead in the specialist market.

(please note, I am not British  )

Probably shouldn't mention that I had my main dealer fit front pads to my car yesterday to the tune of £206.45...

Rub it in, why doncha!

On your recommendation I have just ordered some Greenstuff pads, following a very noisy e. stop from 90 on the motorway the other day!! Got the existing pads as standards - Mintex or some other known brand, but haven't liked them from the start.

As you said in other e-mails, the SVX isn't a listed application, but they sorted the order out very efficiently. None in stock, so will have to wait (and drive more slowly!) until next weekend to fit.

With the standard discs, the guy told me to take it easy for the first few minutes of driving just to warm the pads up properly.

Next time, give me a shout - I'll change them for £205 ;)

It's a five minute job and only requires one spanner.

Genuine Subaru pads are about £125 but they last for years. I guess that means they've charged you about £80 for 10 minutes labour.

We just ordered some Pagid pads for about £35. If they arrive today I'm going to fit them tomorrow morning, weather permitting.

Phil.

My MOT was due ten days ago so I went into the local AA Service Centre (Halfords as used to be). They phoned and said it had failed because the front pads were worn out - "But we can do it today if you approve the cost" I approved it and they did it - at a cost of £56.97 including labour - and I got 10% off because I'm an AA member. So far they stop the car, which is what they are meant to do.

I fitted the Greenstuff front pads (rears were ok) with the standard discs. Much improved stopping power and a lot less fade than the previous set up. £43 I think.

Well pleased. Thanks Andy!
