Just got her painted - pics enclosed
Hey everyone, just got my 96 back from Maaco. I did a much-dreaded color change and ended up being really happy with it. This color is Subaru's Urban Grey Metallic. I had em put in the 97 grill along with the work, as well as fill the front plate mount holes. Let me know what you guys think of the color. I'm so used to seeing green that I can't believe its my car.

I like the color but who put that rear wheel skirt molding back on? I gotta get me a hammer to do it like that!:D
Obviously that wasn't the standard macco $199 ambassator job but you're not showing the important stuff like your door jambs, the inside of the trunk or under the hood. How much ya spend on it? |
Looks great! And I love those wheels from the Muruno too! Ithink that's a really neat color. How did they do on the door jams and under the hood and trunk lid?

No doubt on the molding. I figured that wouldn't slip by without a comment. I'll fix it when I do the Koni work here soon. They did great on the trunk, jams and sunroof. I paid extra for R&I on the sunroof molding, trunk lid removal, rear spoiler removal, floor jams, and inside doors. Believe it or not its the $499 paint job, but I ended up at $1200 due to the labor stuff. I'm happy for what I spent.

I like it...looks really good:cool:

I was trying to avoid a color that screamed "I just had my SVX painted" (its ok if I scream that but not the car :) The Urban Grey paint chip on the 2007 Impreza brochure looks darker but I figured out it depends on the light. This color has such a heavy metallic that it will go almost lighter grey in direct sun, then dark grey in non direct light.

Looks Great. Richer that the original silvers I think.
GreenMarineSVX, have a look at "Lunar Grey" on the '06 Jaguars. It's a colour I've been toying with. |
Is it basecoat/clearcoat, or just one stage paint? Looks great! I need to get my '95 bordeaux pearl done and I was thinking Maaco, but I'd like base coat/clear like the original.
|
Its indeed the single stage. I wanted to keep an extra thousand in my pocket for additional vehicle priorities. If you have the budget go two stage all the way. I think this is as good as a single stage gets, but a color sanded setup would be all the better. With the labor my two stage quote was about $2200 from Maaco. By no means is this a Maaco ad, I just like the fact my local shop does a lot of Barrett Jackson restoration work and I made sure I paid the extra to have them do good masking work (especially for a color change). If I were a paint guy and saw this thing roll in it would be very important to know the hours needed were built into the job.

looks beautiful -- congratulations

Still wanna see how they did on the door jams etc. if you get the photo itch again. |
Regarding the paint quality question, its Sherwin Williams. Comes with a warranty, I have to check how long. The thing about the single stage is they say not to buff it as the buffing will get down into the metallic and darken it.

looks great!! I really like it... A little off topic but... I noticed you have an OBDII 5mt and have a few questions. Did you have any issues with the swap or was it as simple as an OBDI swap??
